Re: 1 Feb 2010 - Crusting Pipe - Bring a bottle of Port

Hi there, if still possible, can I come as well please? Since Ben intends to come as well I fear I have to bring another Port from 1970. Just recently refound a Cockburn 1970 in my flat which I can bring. If the interest is on an 80ties Port I would like to suggest Croft da Roeda 1980 which ma...

Re: Off Alcohol

DrDirk, huch, I thought you want to finish your Baby Stilton first before doing this. It is lovely! Cookie is already done with his. So a new record for you to break  But anyway see what this alcohol free period is doing to you. Out of a half bt of Croft da Roeda 1980 we took on the walk just b...

By accidently browsing on the Tesco webpage it looks like the Tesco BOB Vintage 1994 port is from Quarles Harris. So this should be good.

Re: 2004 Croft LBV Unfiltered

Hmmm Tesco seems to continue to sell the halves for 3.99£ for which they are still a very good deal. 3.32£ is of course better, but eh what can you do. I start to wonder if the Brandy in the Port is already worth more than the halve of Croft LBV 2004 unfiltered. :?

Re: 2004 Dow Master Blend LBV

Had bought one bt of the Dow Master Blend 2004 to qualify for the cask discount. This is really very nice for a filtered LBV. A bit linear but for 5.49£ you cannot go wrong. Good news is it looks the Tesco offer is back.

Ben,

also thank you very much for bring up the idea (Beating the (New Year) Blues ) and organising this. It was a great evening. Got the boat home to the Docklands; was very impressive to travel in the dark on the Thames when it was heavily snowing.

Looking fwd to the Vesuvio vertical

Re: 1970 Croft

Corney&Barrow bottleing bought from Corney &Barrow; very deep colour, dense, rich on the palate, nice little hints of this typical orange touch Croft has. Very youthful appearance and very long. Also improved steadily until the bt was unfortunately empty :(

Re: 1985 Noval

I was also impressed by this bt Noval 1985 since I was warned it maybe a bit too fwd and light for an 85. However in comparison with the 70 Croft or the 77 Warre its handicap became clear. This is a very nice bt of port ready to drink know but not more. The other two bts were much "umpfier"...

Of course I hope Mr Vesuvio can make it. But he still has swine flu or something. So let us wait, see and hope he recovers in time.

Ben, with my my comparison with missing/lacking horsepower I just wanted to emphasize that over time all its power, structure and fruit seem to have gone. This was very enjoyable in the beginning and showed also a very nice structure. Though for 70 it seemed always a bit lean. I fear this was a slig...

Re: 1977 Warre

Christopher's bt Warre 1977 was just amazing. The best Warre 1977 I had so far; very pure, smooth, delicate and to the point. Did improve nicely with time and showed all characteristics of a great port. Thanks a lot for bringing this bt even though it was not perfectly fitting into the theme 70 - 85...

My journey was for the circumstances (snow etc. in England) also very smooth. All was perfectly on time until the train got near Liverpool Street, it picked up 20 minutes delay due to waiting for a platform to become free.

Also thank you Tom for organising such an excellent evening!
