Re: 2007 Vintage Port Declarations

FYI when I spoke to the importers of Romaneira at the Lords Potrugal tasting last month they indicated that 2007 would be declared. According to Tanners the importer is no moer and I have not been able to confirm whether it actually was (the Romaneira web site appears to be oriented to tourist).

Re: Organising Your Port

I think its fair to say that what I store on site I don't organise. Due to space constraints I don't have that many bottles at home and quite frequently cannot find something or find something I had lost. It can be fun and it can be frustrating, on reflection mostly fun. I would love one day to orga...

If you are a WS member in the UK and you don't already have a pile of Vesuvio boxes to admire the WS have an reasonable offer on a mixed 6 pack (1997/98/99/00/04/05) for GBP150.

I don't have experience of the first 30-40 years but I would vote for 1995 (so far). The SQVP from 1995 I have had have been v.good.

Re: 1995 Fonseca Guimaraens

I had a couple of glasses from a bottle that had been open for 2 days yesterday and it was drinking well. My recollection: very dark, little nose, lovely fruit, the alcohol is well integrated and not too hot, quite chalky tannins and quite a long finish. I would buy again.

Normally you can go to the web site for 'BBC four' and once the programme has aired on TV you can watch on your computer. I don't know if there are any oevrseas restrictions.

Re: Perfect port for a winters day?

I’m still at a loss as to why 6" of snow results in the entire transportation system in London disintegrating! Probably for the same reason that it causes the entire city of Seattle to shut down. I grew up in a small town in NE Nebraska. We had 7-8 snowplows, 3 or 4 or those big construction s...

Re: Perfect port for a winters day?

I would have gone with the Morgan 1991 too and a Taylors QdV from the 90's and I am also partial to a Fonseca Guimarens from the 90's.

Vesvuio is also the most popular port in my cellar (pipping Niepoort). Given I have nearly twice as much vesuvio as fonseca I will go for 20%!

Re: The 3 bottle challenge

An interesting challenge, given I do something similar for my brothers from time to time I have lots of ideas, how about a Morgan 1991, a SQ from 1995 say Fonseca G and a Noval LBV. Tight but I think if you bought at the right time you would be close to GBP35.

Re: To pay or not to pay, VAT is the question

I tend to agree, tax cuts are only a headline grabbing item this week and I cannot see them being sustained (ditto for some of the medium gilt prices). If I had a lot of wine IB I would consider a partial removal but I don't so even looking at a 5% spread on what I would pay for the VAT I doubt I wi...

Re: Are you planning to open a bottle on bonfire night?

Indeed i do, if the Niepoort 1994 turn up it will be one of those, else something from 1995 FG/Taylors QdVargellas or a tried and well tasted Vesuvio.

Quite looking forward to it, its cold now in London and the port tastes even better when it cold outside :)

I would agree, my least favoured Vesuvio (and I like them a lot) and I would hope something more interesting could be found north of GBP25.
