Re: Herman Gerdingh

This is very sad news indeed. It was a great pleasure to have known Herman and to have been able to drink port together on several occasions. I still have very fond memories of the last time I met Herman, at the 1977 tasting in Utrecht. With his enthusiasm, and the enormous amount of dedication and ...

Re: London - Tuesday 26 February

Is anyone going to be there early? I could probably be there somewhere between 5.30 and 6PM and wouldn't mind a pre-port beer.

Re: Airline ports

I didn't but they had the same port on the plane as well, so I got through my 6 hour delay without too many complaints. Luckily my baggage made it in one piece, so the bottle for tomorrow is standing upright. :)

I guess there is quite a lot of psace on Waitrose shelves at the moment, with all the meat products they have removed!
Port and horse meat is a classic combination!

Re: Airline ports

I was supposed to fly with Etihad to London today, but they are doing a reservation system upgrade, and as such are making a mess of everything. They were able to fly me to Abu Dhabi, but overbooked the connecting flight to London. After some persuasion from my side (I wasn't willing to accept a one...

3 days later and not a single man has gathered enough strength to write a review or tasting notes? That must have been quite a triumphant return!

Re: Olive Oil

For me, the best olive oil producer in the Douro is CARM. They have a long history of making great oil and press and bottle the oils from almost every quality quinta in the region. If you're in the region, a visit to their mill is well worth the effort.

Tonight we'll drink a Niepoort 1952 Garrafeira, thanks to StevieCage, and with Christmas at the in-laws it will be Calem 1977 (which is leaking so an obvious victim).

I now know that I won't be in London around this time, so please remove my name from the waiting list.

However, I will be in town end February, and am of course looking forward to drinking some Port with you. I will start a thread for that in due time.

Cheers,
Ronald

Re: 1977 Guedes Vintage Port

Interesting one Axel. My only experience with Guedes was a '67 LBV, and that was very nice! See TN here . I also checked out some of the company history and found out that they were bought by RCV in 1967, so this was probably the last port they made as an independent company, or the first under new ...
