KillerB, You have put forward a fine case for having less Englishmen in the world - present company excepted, of course   Seriously, there has to have been a better way to plan this place. I drove to Devon this week down the M5 for the first time. Looking at the billiard table that stretch...

The £997 covers the 12 Fonseca Vintages, assuming Tom is still coming and happy to supply most of the bottles  Bottles 13 to 15 are Fonseca Guimaraens bottlings from lesser years. Not essential and, to be honest, probably not a good choice in the company of their generally more gifted siblings...

Great stuff, thanks. I remain available to do some work on raw data to make it fit into whatever format jdaw comes up with. It would be worth exploring wheter or not jdaw or someone else could come up with a TN database application that could be hosted elsewhere but exclusively accessed from here so...

Alan, We need to have a word about your roots - just think of this - you live in what was once a remote part of the north-western region of what is now known as Engerlund. To the west is an island of Celts who drink black beer. To the south is a land of Celts who dig coal and eat leeks [and sing in ...

Please note that I did use the word "try" - not all succeed, only those who live in houses without towel rails :P Sorry, please don't let me stop your Southern Jessy attack - go for it, they deserve it, they stole my land and made me speak this foreign language - oh, no, sorry, that was yo...

2006 seems to be a good opportunity for honesty in the trade. There were undoubtedly casualties in the hail storm but there were also areas that were not hit by this trauma. Other factors are mentioned above but it does seem that there were areas where growing conditions were favourable. Wouldn't it...

Tom, If you can be bothered, and you think it's statistically relevant, could you please work out and publish the release price of generally decalred VP's from one or two top producers at today's values over the past 100 years or so? It would be interesteing to see just how much the market has chang...

I'm going out on a limb here as I haven't googled any of this but I am fairly sure that the amount of rain that has fallen in the south of England in the past 12 months does not exceed the average rainfall per annum in any area of the UK north of Newcastle over a 50 year period. You see, it's all ab...

Floods Happen

OK - before I start I will extend the hand of friendship and sympathy to anyone who has been unfortunate enough to lose a port cellar in the recent UK floods. Right, here goes... I live just outside of Sheffield and was surprised a few weeks ago to find most of it and the surrounding countryside und...

Alan, I can offer some assistance here... When it gets to mid-afternoon and you are hot and becoming tired of free crap ruby port you should walk into the nearest bar, point at the big silver tap, make a drinking motion with a fictional glass, hold two fingers [palm first] towards the barman and say...

Ghhhanhhdhhhhihhhh, I have a very accurate fag packet that tells me that the cost of the 12 Fonseca vintage listed above is £997, providing they are sourced from Alan, Tom and I as we have already agreed prices privately that beat anything you will buy in a wine merchant. The cost per person depends...

Taylors Quinta De Terra Feita 96 is VP

Cruz Ruby is NV

In fact, only port which is not from a single year qualifies as NV. So, all VP, SQVP, LBV, Colhieta and Garafierra cannot be called NV.

NV's that spring to mind are Ruby, Tawny, Aged Tawny, Crusted
