Re: 1984 Kopke Colheita

I've read this note with interest. Colheitas are something of an unknown world to me, and 1984 is a vintage I've only tried once as LBV. Thanks for posting it.

1963 Rebello Valente

Decanted cleanly from a modest amount of sediment. Well coloured red, deep in tone but with a transparent centre and just a hint of bricking on the rim. Nosing of sweet dusty strawberries; nicely balanced entry with sweetness and acidity at first well matched, but the acidity grows and dominates. Go...

Roy - the highest placed Haut Brion was the 1945 in 17th place. The 1989 was back in 53rd, just behind the 1929 in 50th spot.

Re: The 1000 finest wines ever made

Is it fair to mention 1995 or newer ports? Would seem the verdict is still out on if they are worth of such a list. I think it's fair, because you can taste a port and think "Wow! What a stunning port. That's going to be amazing in 30 years time.". I've tasted a few like that from 2000, 2...

Fonseca 1985 for me. Will start to drink at peak long before the Taylor and both will probably outlive you, so while the Taylor may be worth more, the Fonseca will likely give more enjoyment

Yes, even Vargellas and Malvedos. I have a bottle of Ferreira Vargellas and one day there will be need for a TPF tasting note.

I have long lobbied for the single quinta wines to be listed solely under an abbreviation for the quinta and with no link to the house that owned them at the time the wines were bottled - anything else can just get too confusing with the many changes in ownership that there have been. Re: The 1000 finest wines ever made

So should we do as suggested, and try to make our own list of the 100 best ports ever made as judged when tasting them today? It would be a bit of fun. I would include: Nacional 1963 Fonseca 1963 Fonseca 1966 Croft 1945 Croft 1927 Nacional 1994 Noval 1931 Graham 1955 Nacional 2003 Noval 1997 Morgan ...

Re: Favor to ask my fellow tpf'ers

The ballooned neck is quite normal for the 1945 vintage - the Morgan 1945 has exactly that shape bottle, for example. $500 for a 1945 vintage is quite expensive, but not unreasonably so and they are very unlikely to come up that often so it's a question of whether you have the disposable income to s...

Then you qualify for some - better hurry up though, not much left.

And my week is suddenly feeling much better, or perhaps all the pain just seems a bit fuzzy now.

In 2009, I drank from 338 different bottles of which 85 came from my own cellar and a bunch were 2007 samples. The most tasted shippers were Warre (31), Noval (27), Fonseca (20), Taylor (20), Graham (16) and Sandeman (16). The most tasted vintages were 1970 (63), 2007 (51), 1963 (24) and 2003 (21) a...

Re: 1907 unknown vintage port

That's very interesting news. It is possible that it was a tawny, although that was not the impression that I had. My guess was that this was a private bottling and this particular bottle (or bottling) belonged to someone whose initials were WWW.
