Re: Mon 24th Sept 2012 - Fonseca vs Warres head to head

W66 just decanted. A little spiky at the moment. Sounds like the W60 perhaps? Shall bring the corks as well.

Re: 1997 Niepoort

unless that biological process was causing increased pressure inside the bottle Which I think it must be doing. The corks I pulled recently were not super tight, but tighter than one normally finds in a sound bottle twice that age. You may also recall the occasion when I first re-corked some Ni97's...

Re: 1997 Niepoort

So now I have to ask, what's the deal with the leaking corks 6x closed case comes in and 2 of the bottles are leaking terribly. They buggered the 750mL bottling I think. My bottles have ranged from advanced to oxidised. You may be more fortunate. Anecdotally the halves are sound. Don't know if magn...

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Noval LBV down to £9/bottle at Tesco. Just to update it is the 2005 and is the generic variant. Ready to drink. A little floral on the nose and milk chocolate on the fruit filled palate. Acidity not discernable. By contrast the Quinta do Noval LBV 2005 is made of much sterner stuff. Closed and tann...

Re: 20 year tawny tasting

Or we could have a more general ABV tasting ( ABV III never got off the ground due to scheduling, for instance). We could have a few 20s as an amuse-bouche (collective purchase) before moving on to other things. I like the idea of ABV3, featuring 3 20 year old tawnies. I don't own any 20yo tawnies,...

Re: 1983 Warre vintage port

I feel that Warre did not suffer an 80's dip in form to the same degree as some other venerable port houses. But then I could be biased due to my like of this house.

I'm not sure it this helps the question of whether this port can be broached or not. Such a contrast of views at present. Maybe we will have to check once again.

So long as they keep making it. Would diverting port to the LBV and single quinta ranges be a better revenue earner?

Re: Corked Champagne

Sorry to hear but I am very surprised by your low strike rate! I haven't been as fortunate :( I'd built up an expectation that Champagne was unlikely to be corked, I wasn't sure why - I assumed that the corks used were top quality so less likely to be contaminated. That's what I think about port co...

Would it be too early to stand the 85 Fonseca and the 66 Warres up? I assume I need to decant prior to the event? If so, what timings please Gentlemen? Carl We should be in a better position to answer the decanting question for the F85 after tomorrow's offline. It's not too early to stand the two b...

Re: Wine cellar unit

How many are using a natural cellar to store their wine? you mena like a basement or a cave or something specially built like uncle tom has? More the former, but either one. It seems like more people have fridges than old fashion basements. I keep my wine in a basement that has seasonal swings, pro...
