Re: So, (what) will you be buying from the 2007's?
As I am interested in this topic too (Eindhoven is not so far from me) I contacted them about 2 weeks ago. But I did not get an answer so far. I noticed from last campaign that they had rather good price for 2005 Vesuvio VP. It would be very kind if you would share your knowlwdge on this matter. Nat...

Re: 2003 Quinta do Noval LBV
Actually I planned to buy a copious amount of the unfiltered version. But my source finally offered only the filtered version. So I started with 6 bottles. The first bottle I drunk over 3 days. Not very much to add to the TN. Yes, it's very young and very elegant. I enjoyed it. On day 2 everything c...

Re: NV Noval LB ruby port
Very interesting, Alex. Thank you. Also a picture of the wine was taken? Would like to see the colour of it. BTW: Some years ago I often drank the LB (recent bottlings) and I really liked it. Imo there is only one problem with the better Reserve Rubies. The price is to near to the price of the LBV o...

NV Sandeman Imperial Reserve
This is a Tawny. I could not find any information on Sandeman website how long this one spends in cask. According to Godfrey Spence (Portwein, 1999) it is about 8 years. He mentioned that it would be on a par with a lot of 10 year old Tawnies. I am not that enthousiastic. On the label there is a des...

1999 Quinta do Silval Magalhaes LBV
My third or fourth bottle of this LBV. A half of a normal bottle decanted for about 2 hours, the other half left in the bottle and stored in the fridge. Ruby red centre, brick red at the edge, very nice appearence. I never saw this one to be on the purple side. Nose did not give much, some red fruit...

Re: 2003 Quinta do Noval LBV
Alex and Andy, thank’s fort the additional information. I was a big fan of 1997 Quinta do Noval LBV (unfiltered version). Unfortunately they are all gone. Too much greediness and insufficient buying strategy. One has to learn. Within the next few days I will load up 2003 Noval LBV (unfiltered versio...

Re: 2003 Quinta do Noval LBV
Alex, thanks for the note! 86 for the unfiltered and 90 for the filtered version, that's remarbable. First of all Roy's evaluation on the unfiltered version came as a contrast to my mind. If I remember correctly he found 2003 Noval LBV on the level of the 1994 Noval LBV which he rated constantly 93....

Re: What are you drinking?
Temperatures are a bit down here at the moment. So a kind of heating would be appreaciated. It's 2000 Quinta do Noval LBV, the filtered version. Some nice and warm cherry fruit, pleasant mouthfeel, but not the sightest wow factor. Even at the relatively decent price of 12€ I won't buy this again. Si...

Re: How does this work? Bottling VP's.
I'm not sure when the rules defining Vintage Port, Late Bottled Vintage Port and colheita port came into force ... . The rules defining Vintage Port should base on the act of 1.1.1974. According to my knowledge bottling of VP was made until the vintage 1974 by the Port trade. I can't imagine, that ...

I don't know if everyone interested in is aware that Richard Mayson has TNs of the 2007 VP on his website. Here is the link. http://www.richardmayson.com/Port_Notes/

NV Graham Tawny 20YO
Orange brown colour, rather dark for a 20 years old Tawny. In the nose echos of dried dates and figs, roasted flavour, slightly alcohol. Clean, fresh, vivid mouthfeeling, pleasing sweetness, roasted flavour, sturdy drinking, ends on a hint of citrus. Rather long aftertaste. Very good, sturdy 20 yeras...

Re: Rose or Pink Ports - Producers?
I have plenty of Vintage Port for aging... I don't need unfiltered LBVs for short term aging to fill in the gaps. Glen, of course you must be a lucky man. I am not on this sunny side  . So I do buy LBVs to let them age some years. And I have to admit: I do like them :D . So: Mea culpa :) . Mi...

Re: Poll: 1991 or 1992?
For Richard Mayson this coparision obviously makes sense. "Both years produced some excellent wines but, having re-tasted both years side-by-side in 2003, I feel that 1992 has the edge." (Richard Mayson, Port and the Douro, Mitchell Beazley, 2004). In the majority of cases different years ...
