Re: The Durand corkscrew

Another fan here and in the same boat as Andy.

I drink a fair bit of older clarets, the durand gets used often.

Declare, or make?
I see! 66' would be similar story to the 77' then?

Re: 2016 Vintage Port Preview Tasting and other Ports and Douro wines

Very true on the young ports, and not only that, some were cask samples. The NY tasting had less people and from the pictures looked like a small venue so we got pretty decent sized pours on most wines. I was fortunate enough to have Dominic swing by to say "Hi" so the pourer did me solid ...

Re: 2016 Vintage Port Preview Tasting and other Ports and Douro wines

I attended the NY tasting, I much prefered the Dow's and the Graham's Stone terraces as my top two of the vintage. The noval was solid like previous years. I'm shocked at the black pepper notes from the Fonseca as the 97, 2000, 2003 had a beautiful fleshy peach note that has been absent in the 07,09...

Re: 2015 Vintage Review

TL:DR Graham stone terraces top of the class? TL:DR? Not sure what that means. But yes, GST blew me away. I told Charles S that I thought it was the best young vintage port I have ever tasted. Pure finesse yet incredibly complex. heh, i meant it was too long and i didnt read through all of your ind...

Re: Coravin

Have folks done any controlled experiments with the coravin? I know for quevedo's 20 year, the taste changed in coravin'ed bottles after about 3 months. There was an opportunity for me to open two bottles, so i opened the coravin'ed bottle and a new bottle. The newer bottle was definitely fresher bu...

1957 Krohn

Cork came out wet and in half. Nice clear ruby color with a slight tinge of bricking around the edges. Decanted 1 hour A lovely nose of reduced cranberries and cardamon. On the mouthfeel notes of sarsaparilla root, vanilla cola mixed with cane sugar. It lends itself to a lovely candied ginseng liqou...

1983 Casa Ferreirinha Barca Velha

Clear ruby color through out, no signs of bricking. I was pleasantly surprised by this bottle considering my past experience with the Barca Velha where I find them tired, dirty and thin. This had a delicate nose of rose water, lemon oils and a touch of lavender. The palate was surprisingly mid weigh...

1991 Cockburn

80% opaque. Deep dark blood red with hints of black at the core. popped and poured nose of sarsaparilla mixed with hints of baked plums. Tastes of lush milk chocolate mixed with baked stone fruits mixed with cardamon finishing with a delicate but spicy cinnamon finish. Could use a little more acidit...

So basically a Tawny reserve in an expensive bottle? Which I'm good with as I'll probably buy one just for the bottle which I think is cool looking.

NV Taylor Anniversary 325 Reserve Tawny

Opened for 2 hours prior to tasting. a sweet raisiny nose with just a slight touch of spirits. treacle notes mixed with a smooth sweet plums that shows some burnt tangerines on the finish. This has the notes of the grahams six grape with a dollop of taylor 10 mixed in. I'm not sure on the price but ...

Re: 2015 Graham Stone Terraces

I tasted a production bottle. Charles commented that all the Stone Terraces had been bottled about 3 weeks before the tasting and that he was pleased with the way it had recovered from its bottle-shock (my words, not his). I didn't find it a big, powerful port but incredibly complex. ah! thanks for...

Re: 2015 Graham Stone Terraces

Hey AHB,

did you taste the cask samples or a production bottle?

They had a tasting 3 weeks ago and I found the grahams much lighter on its feet than your notes indicated.
