1983 Gould Campbell

A medium red, clear at the rim with little bricking. Some honey and strawberries on the nose. Black pepper emerging after an hour. Sweeter than a Warres however. Cacao adding to the strawberry jam palate with a fine acidity. Moderate heat on the finish. Overall a teasing glimpse of promise but yet t...

Re: NV James McCabe Crusted 1984

I recall a single case study experiment performed by a 10 year old boy titled "Can rubber be reformed after melting rubber bands?" The main finding was serendipitous. The surface used on a 1980s Tefal frying pan wasn't, as advertised, non-stick. I really miss melting things. It was a boyh...

Re: NV James McCabe Crusted 1984

DRT, how do you know what hot rubber bands smell like? Because I was a child before there were games consoles. So was I. But your childhood sounds so much more desolate and affecting.. Surely you invented things that involved rubber bands and friction when you were a boy? I recall a single case stu...

Re: Tastings, samplings, and the like, by retailers etc.

The Sampler in Islington and South Kensington appears to have jumped on the 2011 bandwagon this week... This week we are doing a fascinating tasting of 8 different ports from the recently released 2011 vintage. If you haven’t already heard, this vintage looks to be fantastic, so we thought it might ...

Not so full of port (although I did pick up a 1944 Royal Oporto colheita last week) but plenty of fortifieds. Lamp production still in progress.

cheers

Regarding the notice, the gender would have been known by the medico people and even the palace prior to the birth no doubt.

I went looking and I have found the 2008 Cockburn's Quinta dos Canais. Coincidence? Perhaps. However, I think it was the 2008 that was shipped Down Under.

Re: Farewell (for now) to Griff - Tuesday 4 June 2013

I have successfully reactivated my account after a change in email! Phew. Now that I can speak again, may I say that this was a most wonderful night with glorious ports. Sadly my affliction was to leave my tasting notes and score sheets at TBH. However I have photos of the score sheet at least and I...

That sounds intriguing.

Two bottles from us. If I may, I would like to bring two further bottles that may be of interest. One is fortified in the traditional manner; the other late picked.

All vintage surely. But there again I would suggest that a new vintage may require a different temperature to a venerable vintage. Worthy of a test or three perhaps? :)

OK, let's do blind as it keeps me honest. As for wine, when I say wine I do mean unfortified you know ;) It would also mean cataloging them  At least the Eurocave is easy to transport.

Do we show our cards or is it blind? Also, are we allowed to bring a wine as well for dinner? I have 90 bottles left of wine to drink and running out of time

Re: 2003 Sainsbury Taste The Difference

I collected another 13 on my way home today. Sainsbury will be very impressed when they analyse my collection of nectar points this month. Ben - do you want the 6 you requested? If so, status of the available ports is as follows: 1-24 to JDAW 25-30 to RAYC 31-32 to RAYC 33-34 to Griff (let me know ...

Re: 2011 Declarations

Either way, enough houses declaring to call this a general declaration, which it makes it the first '1' year to be generally declared in the two centuries since the system began.. I guess 1931 had too few declaring to count as 'general' and 1991 was split 1991/2. It is interesting looking at the nu...
