Dear all,
It's not only me who is delighted and happy when a shipment of port or wine arrives at our house. Our cat is happy, too.
She always uses the shipping boxes as a new cat basket for several weeks. So there is another reason to buy port frequently.
Best wishes
Andre

Re: 2005 Quinta de la Rosa LBV
Yes, it's Karsten Kubin from Weingallerie (http://www.portwine.de). I think that's the best shop here in Germany. We don't have such an enviable port culture here in our country. When someone was talking about getting Bomfim 96 at Tesco's for 10 Pounds in another thread today I went totally green wi...

Re: Port and literature
Congratulations jdaw1
It's Graham Greene's "Ministry of fear".
I'm not really familiar with Greene's biography, but think he just used the references to Port as a way of saying that someone was an "orthodox" Englishman. After all, Port is the Englishman's wine.

2005 Quinta de la Rosa LBV
Half bottle, stopper-cork (I hope this is the right English word for it), not decanted quite dark, smells of sour cherry/morello cherry and black pepper, smooth in the mouth, not too sweet/ a kind of light sweetness, you can feel the acidity of the sour cherry in the mouth, which I find quite pleasa...

here's a literature quiz for sunday:
"Has a good palate for port".
1. What's the name of the book?
2. Who's the author?
Best wishes

Port for decanter rinsing
Dear all, as a newcomer to Port I would like to get some advice on Port used for rinsing decanters: The books on Port always recommend rinsing the decanter with cheap Ruby Port before pouring the VP into it. But they are not specific on what Ruby you should use. Can you take any Ruby that is at hand...

Re: Essencia do Vinho 2014
Thanks for the link to the English version of their website.
I supose the program flyer with the different date is still that of last year.
But I sent them an e-mail and asked for an explantion.
I'll keep you in the loop.

Re: Douro debrief
Yes, it's a disgrace. But as people told me, it's not the IVDPs fault, but the city council's (but I don't know the other side of the story).
Anyway, they are looking for another place to open a new Solar in Porto. Let's hope they find a nice place soon.

Re: Douro debrief
The Solar do Vinho do Porto in Porto is indeed closed. People told me that the tenancy agreement had run out and the city council did not renew it. It's a shame as I wanted to visit it while in Porto this August. I have not been there before but know the Solar in Lisbon. The Solar there is really go...

Re: Essencia do Vinho 2014
The Essencia do Vinho is Portugal's biggest wine fair. According to their website, they had 20.000 visitors this year, 350 producers were offering 3000 wines to taste. The fair is open to the public. If I remember correctly, the admission fee was 5 Euros a day (you could keep the wine glass). The eve...

Essencia do Vinho 2014
Dear All, next year's Essencia do Vinho (http://www.essenciadovinho.com) will take place in Porto from the 28th of February to the 2nd of March (I asked for the date in an e-mail). There one has all Portwine and all the rest of the portuguese wine world right in one single spot. I will be in Porto f...

Hello from Cologne
Hi everybody, as a newcomer to port (and to this forum) I would like to say hello to everybody. My name is Andre, I'm 36 years old and live in Cologne, Germany. I tasted my first Port wine three or four years ago. I was always interested in wine (and I'm still interest in wine besides port), so I ju...
