Re: Graham?

What about taking Eric up on his offer of a Graham and withdrawing either the Ferreira or the Delaforce? I, of course, vote for this change. I want the Delaforce, so how about: 1977 Fonseca (JDAW); 1977 Taylor (FF); 1977 Dow (JG); 1977 Delaforce (FF); 1977 Niepoort (JDAW); 1977 Quinta do Cachão (...

Have any TPF members seen the (alleged) television series Ports to Remember? Was it any better than the rubbish introduction available free on the web?

1977 tasting: scores on the doors

Righty-ho. So the scores on the doors are now as follows. People: JDAW ; Perhaps Mrs Jdaw1, aka MAW; JG ; FF ; JES ; ED ; JL ( the new woman in the life of jdaw1 ). Bottles: 1977 Fonseca (JDAW); 1977 Taylor (FF); 1977 Dow (JG); 1977 Delaforce (FF); 1977 Niepoort (JDAW); 1977 Quinta do Cachão (JDAW...

Re: customer confusion

Perhaps once this might have been true but with today's supermarkets putting the "price per 100cl" on their shelf labels this comparison is made much easier. I often rely on this simple calculation when buying products that come in different sizes, such as Olive Oil. I said that “They are...

1980 horizontal

Perhaps we should leave the final choice of theme to Julian, since he is providing the excuse for the tasting. If we leave it open to democracy, I'll vote for the 1980 horizontal since I think 1980 is a significantly overlooked vintage. Dictatorship or democracy: I could mention Arrow’s Theorem. An...

customer confusion

What dredfull thing would happen to the world if someone sold a 0.9 litre bottle of port? I just don't get it. The dreadful (note spelling) thing happening would be customer confusion. If port were sold in 75cl, 72cl, 70cl, 68cl, 65cl, and other in-between sizes, the bureaucrats (note spelling) thi...

Loophole in 75/106/EEC

Question: If you put a label on a 6l bottle with a mark saying that it contained 5l of port would anyone at customs and excise know the difference? Further, there are obvious loopholes in 75/106/EEC , and the IVDP should explicitly permit exploitation of these loopholes. Well found Derek. I am not ...

SW in; QH out?

For a long time QH has been firmly at the bottom of the Symington list of port houses, and until recently was the company name in the small print on products such as Tesco own brand vintage port. As far as I can make out, the Syms blend a respectable wine for QH labelled product, using the stocks a...
