Labels are not always a good indicator of what’s in the bottle, so I hope it will turn out to be well stored! Are you planing on drinking it?
I know, but it won't hurt to hope! The fill level in the bottle also seems excellent, so I take that as an indication of proper storage as wel...

Re: What do you know about this Port??
It really sounds as though this is a 1937 white colheita. Is there anything which shows the date of bottling? If we are right, this should be a stunning wine and one which should not have suffered much if well stored. The only thing mentioned about botteling date, is that it's botteled in 1973 (eng...

What do you know about this Port??
Hi all, At auction last week, I won (among other things) a bottle of: Pinto & Co /Vinho do Porto / Récolte 1937 (vieille en Fût) / Blond Doré / Demi-sec.It is bottled in 1973. The back label is in French, and quite damaged, so I can't make out everything it says. From what I can make out, it say...

Re: Latest buy
We had a good excuse to buy some port, so decided we needed more port with some age on it. That resulted in: 9x Fonseca 1970 2x Cockburn 1967 1x Cockburn 1970 Almost at the same time there was an auction with many lots of Niepoort 1977. I never win at these things, so decided to put a bid on a coup...

Re: Duff Gordon 1997 LBV
Gerwin, Another nice note from you! And, yes, jammy is an english description for very sweet fruit. Since this was a different bottle, would you mind if I asked one of the admins to separate this tasting note from the earlier one so that they show up on the tasting note index as two separate tastin...

Re: Duff Gordon 1997 LBV - 2nd Bottle
Last night opened the second bottle of the lot. I will try to post my TN's on every bottle of this one here, as I open them in the (hopefully) next couple of years. This bottle looks fine, no signs of leakage / seepage or anuthing. Level is good as well. The cork (driven) came out a bit crumbled, as...

1997 Duff Gordon LBV
Bottled in 2002, won at auction last sunday (so not sure about provenance, and it has been in bottle for 8 years already). Bottles all look pretty good still with driven corks. Although I've been around this forum for a while, this will be my first (or one of my first) tasting notes, so bear with me...

Jesper on 24 March 2005 (a solid SQ Vintage year) and top Bordeaux vintage) :D ; Thijmen on 11 January 2007 (looks to be a great to classic Vintage) :D . This, I'm sure is compensation for the fact that my birthyear was an absolute rubbish year for about any kind of wine (1973) :( . On the other han...

Re: What shall I open?
Thanks to all of you for the replies so far :D . On the bases of this, I've narrowed the options down a bit to: - Passadouro (btw made / bottled by Niepoort) 1992 (92+ Parker for what it's worth  ); - Roeda 1983; - Taylor's Vargellas 1986; - Burmester 1991 (I believe this one got 86 :ws: point...

Hi all, Coming Sunday I am planning a little dinner, which will be concluded with a nice VP. I have several options to choose from, and I would very much like to read your suggestions / input on which one you all would pick and why. Here are my options: - Burmester 1991 - Niepoort 1991 - Quinta do P...

Seems like a wonderful opportunity to get to meet some more / other port enthousiasts! Re: Laying away Vintage Port for the next generation
I have two young sons (2 and 4) from 2007 and 2005. A large part of my (future) VP collectione therefore consists of bottles of these both vintages, which I am building together with my father. My 2007 VP orders (so far, combined with the ones that my father ordered) are: Dow's (case of 6) Fonseca (...

Need help finding re-usable Decanter "labels"
Does anybody know if, and if so where (preferred in Europe), I can get hold of "decanter-labels" which can be re-used (re-writable, i.e. with whiteboard marker of a chalkstick)? I think I once saw a picture of a bunch of decanters, which had a label (hanging from a chain) around them on wh...

We have a winner! The only way we could make out the shipper was a (fading) stamped bottlecapsule.
The VP itself was still in excellent condition. This was my first experience with a VP of that age (60 years in bottle).
DRT's up!
