NV Churchill Club Tawny

This is now available to purchase if you are a Port Club member. It is said to have had an average of 17 years in wood. It is certainly priced as though it were a 20yo but for my limited experience of drinking 20yo tawny, this is better. It has the typical Churchill style - rather on the dry side, w...

Re: Warre Private Cellar vs “Normal” Bottlings - date tba in 2022

With a number of 1970s involved, I'm certainly interested. But likely to need to adopt so understand that may put me back in the queue a little.

Re: Insurance

Tom. What does the policy say about the contents sun insured? Check the policy definition carefully. Also, if it does specify an amount, check whether it is covering the current value or replacement value. The old adage of ‘if it looks too good to be true, it probably is’ generally holds! Julian - am assuming that you won't be attending. If you recover sufficiently by Wednesday let me know as I'm sure we'll find room for you. I am very ill. Definitely unable to attend. Placemats updated to add Ben, and to re-credit the ’55. Please check. I’m sorry to hear you are still suffering. I ...

Re: Warre's Sesquarcentennial Tasting - Weds 6th Oct 2021 (date confirmed)

If a space becomes available, and a bottle to adopt, I might be interested. I’m enquiring of my mother, who would need to babysit, just in case…. Julian’s space is still available. There are sufficient bottles so no adoption required, just a share of the bottle costs. Let me know ASAP. If still ava...

and assuming … that my exhaustion fades I have covid. My pace of improvement in the recent few days has been positive, but only small positive. By next Wednesday, likely as not, I still won’t be able to drink at all, let alone in Port-tasting quantity. Sorry team: time to admit reality — the exhaus...

Re: Quevedo Garrafeira

I’m very excited by this tasting, having never tried a garrafeira. Does anyone with more knowledge than me know how representative of the style Oscar’s might be given their relative youth? (I’ve purchased my pack already so this is a question for my own reference come the tasting). Thank you. Sent f...

Fortified Virtual Wine Tasting 29/10/21 8pm (Commercial)

***If an admin feels this should be posted elsewhere, please move*** [Moved by jdaw1 to thread ‘Tastings, samplings, and the like, by retailers etc.’.] Firstly, this is my local wine merchant organising this, not me. They have organised some excellent virtual tastings over the last 18 months and hav...

NV Almeida Dias Tawny

Almeida Dias Porto Tawny I’m sharing this as much for the academic interest as anything else. It’s not a brand I recognise - I suspect it is a Spanish brand as it was purchased in a Spanish supermarket (Mercadona). Sogevinus are the company behind it. As tawny goes, my advice is don’t bother unless ...

Re: I'm going to be having a bad week...

Not so long ago, I only owned Port in either bottles or half bottles. Not so long ago really, not in the grand scale of things... Not so long ago, my entire Port cellar consisted ‘only’ of a few bequeathed bottles of Dow 1960. ‘Not so long ago really’ etc etc! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

The cask was successfully tapped this afternoon. And likewise, there is no chance I will drink the c. 60 pints before it goes off. So I then spent an hour or so filling 4pt plastic milk cartons and delivering them to neighbours! What a wonderful neighbour! It was share it out or risk drinking mysel...

Beer in the cellar

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210217/134ccbfd81d426d2df2b2128c7ed0845.jpg I live in an old pub. The cellar so far has been home only to bottled beer, wine and port. At least that’s the case since we’ve lived here and I suspect since it ceased being a pub in 1936. Today I had this delivered by ...
