Re: Berry Brothers Vintage Ports
Berry Brothers have just released the the 2011 and the spiel is as follows: When we asked Charles Symington, Head Winemaker at Dow, Graham and Warre, to send in samples for our Own Selection from the superb 2011 vintage, he was happy to oblige. After extensive tasting, we concluded the wine made in ...

My departure from work has just been delayed- please place me at end of table and (if possible) ask my food order to be held - I now anticipate arriving c.8.00.

Re: Wed 17 June 2015, The Sweet-spot Vintages (66,70,77)
G70 (unknown English bottler, pesky rubber capsule) double decanted at noon and now at B&F. There's also an unopened backup G70 (Oporto bottled, looks like it was shipped in 90s / 2000s) if that bottle proves to be faulty or uninspiring with air - feel free to use discretion on set-up. Plus a b...

An unusual list! The Lamelas Rose is the best rose I have personally tried - i even purchased a bottle for consumption on the back of a tasting (albeit it remains unconsumed two years later....) I believe the Baldias 20yr was opened at an event I went to at the Quevedo lodge last year and had a soli...

Following a few wine searcher links, the following also appear to have been declared - Dourum Quinta do Castelo Melhor - Kopke Quinta de Sao Luiz - Quinta da Revolta - Quinta Seara D'ordeans - Rozes - Sao Pedro Das Aguias There are listings also for Crasto, Presidential and Calem, but it is not clea...

Re: Wed 17 June 2015, The Sweet-spot Vintages (66,70,77)
Happy just to provide F66 (and participate in any cost sharing required) - just to be clear, my two alternative proposals were: - provide G70 in place of DRT (and participate in any cost sharing required) - provide F66 and F70 if we get a F77 in the line up (and participate in any cost sharing requi...

Re: Wed 17 June 2015, The Sweet-spot Vintages (66,70,77)
Ah - ok - Hadn't realised that. I'm bottle rich cash poor at the moment so will duck out if that's ok (assuming food order is revocable at this stage and the line up hadn't changed since before I signed up - let me know if not!). Let's put it this way, if a bottle of F66 is not enough to get you a ...

Re: 2013 Declarations
Noval are only bottling in bottles, no magnums or halves. And only 1200 cases according to Christian Seely. Or - to look at it another way - a c.50% larger declaration than Noval 1994 and an approximately equal declaration to Noval 1997! Has Noval ever bottled Quinta do Noval / Nacional VP in anyth...

Re: The problem with '77 - is there one?
To start with 1970 was a fully declared year right from the start with no doubt on any of the big producers. 1977 was not - Cockburn did not declare, nor did Noval and some others. Therefore there was a different point to start wtih. From what I understand, the 77s were given a lot of hype on relea...

Re: Unknown bottles
I am intrigued as well about Junior blend. BBR 1970 was Warre but "junior" blend I have not heard about. I have assumed that this was a specific barrel of the ordinary Warre 1970 vintage, perhaps a selection of a lower standard barrel. pink capsules were used by Berry's in a number of the...

Re: Berry Brothers Vintage Ports
At the time of release, the 2007 was described to me by BBR as a bespoke blend by Peter Symington from Graham vineyards in celebration of his retirement (ie not Graham proper). I have not verified whether that has any truth to it. EDIT: the spiel from the website It was a great honour for Berry’s wh...

Re: Wed 17 June 2015, The Sweet-spot Vintages (66,70,77)
Looks like I will not be in Copenhagen that week, so if there's room for me to attend and Fonseca 66 were still desired, I could provide. Otherwise I have to hand nice stock of Dow 70, Graham 70, Warre 70, and unproven "odd bottle" stock of a couple of the others (Graham 66 / 77, Dow 77, W...

Re: Quinta do Noval - Declaration Philosophy and Results
curiously not 2005, although apparently it was 100% QdN fruit). By "it" you presumably meant Noval Silval 2005 - I seem to remember Christian Seely mentioning at BBR's Noval event in late 2010 that, at the time of the 2005 declaration, they still did not feel they could release the first-...

Re: 1982 Graham colheita
From the looks of it, I was drinking this same wine in Tortola BVI at just about the same time as you guys. It has done very nicely for having 18-24 months in bottle I think - seems to me to have filled out and gained character from its initial slightly insipid showing in December 2013.

Re: Is it misleading to sell a 79-88 colheita as 36 yo?
I know of at least one 20 year old that averages 28 years old. I also know of a 40 year old that averages 60+ years old. The 40 is a slightly curious category in my view and slightly set apart from the 10-20-30 yr categories, as it seems to have been used (at least until recently) as a "catch ...

Re: Cellar management systems
If you are used to using excel, then I think you will find the lack of ability on the cellartracker management system to customise / filter / create formulas to be frustrating. For instance, I cannot see on cellar tracker how you can easily sort to identify e.g.: every english-bottled bottle of 1970...

Linda, Yes, we can see the pictures. These bottles look like what is known as a BOB (Buyer's Own Brand) bottled by Berry Brothers & Rudd, a very reputable London wine merchant. The Port in the bottle will have been produced by a top class producer and then sold under Berry Brothers name. I can'...
