Irresistible.

The Durand combines a long thread and the Ah-so thing. Surely a better bet than just the Ah-so? But rather more expensive than a free Ah-so.
My thoughts exactly.

William Wallace became the Guardian of Scotland there, thus allowing us to see Mel Gibson devolve into a anti-Semite on a global stage today.

When I was living in Boise, TH VPs for 95, 99, 2001, 03 and 07 were all available at roughly $20-$25 a bottle at various points at grocery outlet over the 2+ years I was there. IIRC it's been a Sogevinous or Sogrape brand for quite some time now.

Re: What to drink in 2015

I don't have a particularly wide selection in my cellar of any particular year, but '95 is probably best represented of any, simply because it seems to be very easy to find at very affordable prices. I agree that my favorites (Noval and Fonseca) definitely have plenty of life for the next decade, I ...

Re: Can you recommend a port glass?

My only complaint with the Riedel glasses is they break far too easily. I had a dozen and am down to four after six years---all but one were broken without a drop, a few when gently hand drying. Lest you say I'm too clumsy, have broken hardly anything else in that span. I have only ever had 4, stil...

Excel is not unusual. CellarTracker is also popular. a big +1. Been using it for many years and it works great. Their new phone app works just great. It also is the largest online data base for storing wines and user inputted wine notes (which I take with a grain of salt). Highly recommend Also a b...

Re: Merits of 1983 versus 1985

1983 is an odd vintage. It has a few ports that I really like (Warre, Graham, Dow, Ramos Pinto) and many that I am very happy to drink. I've generally found this vintage is priced lowe than most of its peers and as I result I've accumulated a fair amount for future drinking. I wouldn't describe it ...

Taylor 1985 at about 70 pounds Interesting. I wonder if anyone has any opinions about this port and how it compares with other 85s, the Graham or the Fonseca for instance? That sounds like a fantastic debate to have, shall we hijack the thread and hash it out here? ;-) Sent from my iPhone using Tap...

Re: Summarise a vintage, concisely

F85 is clearly the standout of the 83 and 85 wines, but I've found my two examples of RP83 to be very worthwhile, and at the right price (to mitigate the cork risk) the 83 Cockburn is impressive as well. It seems that the main driver of which wines from the 80s you'd like seems to be a less objectiv...

Re: Dow's Master Blend LBV Port 2006

My understanding is that "filtered" wines are often chilled to force much of the solid that is barely dissolved at room temperature to solidify and settle to the bottom of the bottle. Rack or filter the chilled wine and you leave the solid behind and create a wine in the bottle that has l...

Had an example of the '82 not that long ago and found the cork/neck situation a rather unfortunate design flaw. Sounds like this juice was substantially tastier than the '82 was as well.

Summarise a vintage, concisely

1988 - It being my birth year seems to be the sole redeeming factor. 1995 - Plenty of excellent, mid weight and mid-structure SQVPs at very reasonable prices. Perhaps even more succinctly: Great QPR year. 1987 - Hard not to enjoy, even harder to find. 1994 - Very mixed bag, not as uniform as adverti...

To test turbidity (effectively opacity), they would put a black and white disk on a rope and ...

Does the level of saturation depend on how full the glass was when the phone was dropped into it?
Also depends on how long the phone was left in said wine ;-)
