1994; Where's the value?

I've decided that '94 is probably going to be the vintage I'll be wanting to have a decent amount of port available to drink in the future (say from around 15-20 years time), and so I've decided to build up a little bit of stock in my cellar now. I already have a few Fonseca that I managed to pick u...

Re: 1985 Graham

I've had the Graham, Taylor and Fonseca 85s in the past year and been a little disappointed with all of them. None of them were bad, I just felt slightly underwhelmed with them all in different ways. Could this be a sign the 85s are in a bad place right now? Or is the vintage in general in danger of...

Re: 1985 Fonseca

Well I'm just enjoying the final glass of this now, and after nearly 48 hours I think rhis is the best one yet. I have 5 bottles of this remaining and I definitely think I'll hold on for a few more years before opening the next one.

1985 Fonseca

Cork came out easily and in 1 piece. It's very dark still in the decanter and rather closed on the nose, not sure I can really pick out much. An immediate glass at T0 is quite disappointingly simple; a reasonably long finish but I'd describe the taste as just boozy jam with not enough acidity to mak...

Re: Where to buy Colheita

Hi Guys, I know this thread has not been used for a while but as I am considering to order at prestige wines of portugal as well I was wondering if anyone of you now actually used the online shop and if you could give a short review? It's just a bit suspicious as there are almost no reviews or anyt...

Re: Port and Stilton

No references for you I'm afraid, just an opinion on Port and Stilton. I love the pairing of a sweet Port and a tangy blue cheese. The cheese has to have a real tangy bite to it though for it to work well for me, which can be some Stiltons but not all by any means.

Cheers, Rich.

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Darn it, I thought I'd finished buying port for at least a few months but I couldn't resist that Fonseca '94. or the others... 2 x Vesuvio '94 3 x Krohn '76 Colheita That's what I mean, they were supposed to be my last for a while. Oh will power, why do you desert me? :?: Anyway, not all bad news; ...

Graham 66

Hi everyone, happy Christmas etc. :-D

What do people think is the best decant time for a Grahams '66? I want it for after Christmas dinner and I'm not sure whether to decant in the morning or the night before?

Re: Where to buy Colheita

I noticed this site when browsing around today: http://prestigewinesportugal.com/ Their Colheita's look very reasonably priced, particularly the Dalva range, and they offer free shipping on orders over £99. Worth a try? That looks like exactly what I'm after, thanks! I'd not considered looking for ...

Re: Where to buy Colheita

Welcome to the dark side! I'm thinking I may have to hand in my forum resignation if this continues :) By the way, I found the 1984 Kopke Colheita to offer 90% of the pleasure of the 1974, but at roughly half the price... see if you can find that one for a cheaper alternative. Another superb Colhei...

Where to buy Colheita

Hi all This weekend I had a revelation. When I came back from Lisbon a few weeks ago I brought with me a bottle of 1974 Kopke Colheita as an experiment, and last Friday I fancied some port but couldn't be bothered with a whole bottle of vintage, so I popped it. Long story short; I love it. I think I...

1974 Kopke Colheita

Dark amber in colour, candied fruit, figs and spices on the nose. A wonderful long lasting flavour of toffee, vanilla and dried fruit. I love this port! 93-94/100

Re: Drinking in Lisbon

Port, or at least any decent variety and range of port, is not that easy to find on wine lists in Lisbon, although there are fantastic restaurants! I have some notes at home that I could check next week when I'm back there... In lieu of good port establishments, any good restaurant recommendations ...

Drinking in Lisbon

Hi all I'm off to Lisbon for 5 days in a few weeks with SWMBO; can anyone recommend a good bar/restaurant with some decent ports to drink while we're there? It needs to be a "normal" bar/restaurant with other drinks since the wife doesn't do port and it won't be much fun for her if all she...

Re: The problem with '77 - is there one?

I don't know what was in richmill's mind when he made his comment, but when I think of the problems of '77 I think of TCA and poor corks. That is what has, for me, marred what would otherwise be a fabulous vintage and quite possibly on a par with or just a tiny notch below 1970. That was pretty muc...

A brace of Taylor '77. I know the reputation for problems 77 has but I've really enjoyed most of the T77 I've had and I'm hoping my good luck continues.

After 24 hours in the decanter this has opened up a little I think (either that or my palate was tired last night). I'd score it 90 now.

1970 Calem

Normal color compared to other 1970s I've had. Tastes of damson jam with some balancing acidity remaining but not quite enough. Quite a short finish. Very pleasant but not a classic 1970 blockbuster, medium weight I'd say and probably in need of drinking up now. 88-89 / 100.
