Re: 2012 Quinta Nova Reserva

No note written, but I recall a powerful, dry, tannic beast that went down very well with my perfectly cooked rare steak.

Re: 1948 Mackenzie

25% opacity, brown/yellow, tobacco rim, cloudy. Smooth, syrupy and full, gentle heat mid to end, some woody notes. Given various clues including a link to Scotland, I changed my original guess to Mackenzie 1955.

Re: 1977 Fonseca

Decanted 5 hours, 35% opacity, red. Smooth start, heat then dryness mid palate and onwards. Red fruit, some tannin in the finish. The dryness had me guess D63.

Re: 1978 Noval

25% opacity, red brown orange. Lovely sweet nose with a hint of citrus. Smooth sweetness, great balance. Quite mature. Guessed F63. Indeed the guesses made although all wrong, were high praise for this N78.

Re: 1955 Taylor

Decanted 12 hours, 25% opacity, red heart, brown-orange outer, some fine sediment. Smooth entry, some heat and slight fieriness mid palate and onwards. Red fruit in there somewhere. The fieriness should have had me guess Taylor. Instead I guessed Mz55.

Re: Monday 27 July, 2015 - Bring a bottle to share

Domhnaill at the B&F now has the complete order for the seven attendees tonight. All is well. Alex, I wasn't sure if Nick also wanted very cheesy Welsh Rarebit as a savoury course, so I have not ordered that for him - we can advise the kitchen this evening if indeed it is required.

Re: Monday 27 July, 2015 - Bring a bottle to share

I've just realised that I need to email Nick and ask him to pre-order. I will do so shortly. Alex, any response from Nick? I'll send the order over to the B&F last thing tonight - I have a back to back day tomorrow so won't have time then. Not yet. However, I suggest that we just let the team a...

Current draft of the food order. Can others please check.

Julian - if you are able to adapt the placemats for the demise of Derek and the appearance of Tom, I can print tomorrow afternoon and bring them along. I am likely to arrive at 1830.

Re: Significant figures

So the DRT classification is as follows. • Things big enough to be rounded: ◊ If in orbit around the sun are ‘planets’ (about a dozen are known, there might be hundreds); ◊ If in orbit around something orbiting the sun are ‘moons’ (there being about 19, the smallest perhaps being Mimas ). • Things ...

Re: It's just not cricket

I think Ballance needs to take time away to sort out a solution to his now known weakness of playing far back in his crease. I think if it is a matter of confidence and just to remind himself he can score runs then sure, go back to the county circuit for a while. But if it is a matter of technique ...

Decanted 12 hours, 50% opacity, dark red. Red candied fruit from the nose. Tannic mouthfeel - a bit gritty. I also thought it very mildly corked - but not enough to stop me drinking it! Guessed to be F77.

Decanted 9 hours, 40% opacity, warm red. Gentle entry, little/no acidity, quick to the finish but with an aftertaste of red fruits. Medium weight, no tannins. Julian says too young, I thought it lacked some backbone and wasn't convinced it will improve massively on the evidence of this bottle. Guess...
