Re: 2008 Vintage Review

I'm just coming back from holidays and couldn't have better news about our Vintage 2008. Thank you Derek and Alex for performing this tasting. Glad to know you both like it.

Cris, hold on your call for one month, we are waiting for the temperatures to go down to bottle it!

Re: Vote for Oscar!!!!

Bad news. We couldn't bring the prize to the Douro... The winner is http://www.beendoonsolong.com/ . I'm sure that if Alex had voted, we were now celebrating.. If I buy some more bottles of 2007 port from you, can I stop feeling so guilty? You come over to help us during harvest and I forget this i...

Re: TPF hosts Oscar Quevedo

I would like to thank Oscar for making his way out to NY to visit us humbly in NY. Embarassingly, due to the warm NY weather no wines were in tow but Oscar did share with us his 96 tawny which I find absolutely marvelous. Goes in like a fine LBV and finishes like an excellent tawny. Loads of strawb...

Re: Corked & Cling Film

Should Port producers start to put cling film in the bottles just to prevent some further TCA in the wine?!? Well, IVDP would need some years to decide on that! Julian would be the guy to fight for that!

It was a REALLY nice experience to meet you all at the Crusting Pipe. I must confess that the final result/ video is quite disturbing. I could realize that my mission was not accomplished. I was not successful in bringing you to the consumption of Colheitas (Glenn please don't give up) and it was no...

Re: 1977 Dow vintage port

I'm felling remorse for not have given more time to this Port. I think it would deserve more attention when I tasted it at the Crusting Pipe on February 11th. What makes me sad is to see that Alex got the same results on the day after. :(

Re: Quinta do Penedo do Salto

I would say that Quinta do Penedo do Salto is still selling the Ports to the Symington group. They make still wines and bottle it but they don't bottle Ports. The quinta is located in Soutelo do Douro, very close to Roriz, Aciprestes and S. José.

Re: Oscar Night Port Tasting - London - 11th Feb 2010

Day 1 It is raining in Oporto. However, I am at Gatwick waiting TAP flight 333 to Oporto at the delayed time of 2.30pm. The Ryanair flight from Stansted took off just as I was waking up on Tom's sofa at 6.30am. It seems Guinness, N58 and GM68 are not good things to have before an early flight. OK. ...

Re: The 1000 finest wines ever made

Definitively Glenn! Maybe we can try to make a list. Each one of us can bring 10 names, not ranked, to the table. Repeated wines would get a higher score. The more a wine is mentioned, higher is the score. The most mentioned would get the first position.

Would this work?

Of course it is acceptable Ben, I think this can be fun!

I like the idea of weird Colheitas and unusual Vintage Port all served blind :D We can all learn a lot!

Re: Oscar Night Port Tasting - London - 11th Feb 2010

Great to see that we already have some confirmations. If we go to the 2nd option, this is, the rescheduling of the tasting for the 16th or 23rd, I suggest that we keep the theme and go for Vesuvios. Otherwise, why not to go for a theme like "Bring that weird Colheita" Looking forward to he...

Re: One quiz at a time

No clue about this. But if someone from Symington (as almost all these Ports are from them) stop by here to read this quiz, I would suggest them to make this exercise live to their Port friends, with real bottles. So while tasting the wines I could follow Julian's comments and I would find the right...

Re: Fortification

Hi Angel, As G-man said, the moment of the fortification depends on the houses' style. There are some winemakers that make sweet Ports, while other opt for dryers. The moment of the fortification depends on the sugar of the must that was already transformed in alcohol. Usually we do it at a density ...
