Well I watched and I learnt. Thanks for that link Alan. I shall grab an empty bottle and a spare cork and try it for myself tomorrow night.

I tend to be with Jay here. Anything from the 80s or 90s or 00s is fair game for me on my own. About once a month I will open something older, because its there and happens to be leaking or just looking sad. This will generally be something from the 70s or 60s and, again, generally where I have more...

1960 Quinta do Noval Nacional

Deep rose red colour, with a touch of orange on the rim. A delicate sweetness on the nose, like ripe wild strawberries. A nose buried in the glass brings out a dusty tone, some pepper and some liquorice with a touch of alcohol showing. Very attractive. Balanced entry, a touch of glycerine adding to ...

I will probably bring two ports as I don't have much non-port these days. I'm thinking of trying to dig out my last bottle of Quarles Harris 1977 plus something else (maybe a Cockburn 1983?) plus a bottle of Cruz 1989 Vintage Port from Morrisons, if they still have some in stock.

A question of etiquette

I post both here and on Roy's forum so I have a question of etiquette to consult on. If I post a thread or an interesting comment on Roy's forum am I free to post a link to it here? That way I can save myself the effort of having to duplicate my efforts and can still gain comment and response here a...

Isthere any specific reason why it should be a Japanese chop-stick? I only have Chinese and Thai ones, so I feel that I would be using he wrong tools. Nothing wrong with Chinese or Thai chopsticks. I did say that the important criteria was that you should use "whatever implement is to hand &qu...

The only other hint that I can add is that if the bottom of the cork actually falls into the wine then the only solution that I have found that works is a three stage affair: (1) decant the wine as normal but just be alert to the rogue piece of cork forming a temporary blockage that suddenly shifts ...

Tom, I'm pretty sure that you are invited - I think it was a general invitation to all on this forum and a few others. The arrangements are not 100% firm and are being organised by Alex K but the gist of it is that we will meet in the late afternoon / early evening of July 18 at the Crusting Pipe in...

I'm catching up with threads that have been posted here while I was away in the home of the other place and I came across this one. Alex K has it spot on, I really can't vote for one of the 4 options that he has presented. Clearly the '66s, '70s or '77s are nowhere near mature-ish. Some of the '63s ...

Derek, I've tasted the Tesco BOB 1994 Vintage Port but it must have been an earlier bottling. I will look back at my notes when I get the chance but I swear that mine was bottled under the Quarles Harris brand. The next batch of tesco own brand Vintage Port that came in was from 1995 and this was bo...

I've posted a message on the other site and hope Roy will follow up with his contacts in the Symingtons. I have half a suspicion that this is a bit of a non-story. The Symingtons have had robots in their lagares for quite a while and have used mechanised treading in their non-premium wines for some ...

I've put vintage port into my signature line to try and increase the number of times that Google spots the phrase (Vintage Port) on TPF. I guess it won't do any harm for as many of us as possible to have Vintage Port in our signatures. So, come on everyone, make sure Vintage Port appears at least on...

18th would be OK by me. Surrey got knocked out of the rounders competition yesterday so now I'm not that interested.

If the 18th suits everyone better then I'm up for the 18th.

AHB, Roy is very relaxed about this forum and visits it from time to time. As he explained it to me, he sees the "audience" for this forum to be very different to that of FTLOP, this one being very much more informal compared to the sharp focus on port / madeira that he is trying to maint...

Most definitely Berry Brothers - but I'm sure they were on your list already anyway. I also like to pop into Harvey Nichols and Harrods to have a laugh at their wine prices - but last time I did that I ended up walking out of Harvey Nicks with several bottles and impressed that some of their prices ...

1991 Morgan's Vintage Port

A bottle from the Morgan cellar clearance, via Christie's and Uncle Tom. After 1 hour in the decanter the wine was a deep red with dark centre and a mahogany rim - surprisingly developed colour. The nose was of dusty blackberries. In the mouth the first impression was dusty / fusty sweetness but the...

Thanks all. When time permits I will load up as many of my tasting notes as I can. For the moment, I have loaded up the TN for the Morgan 1991 since that is likely to prove the wine that gets drunk most often over the next couple of years.

So how do we distinguish between wines - do we just assume that people know that 1995 Warre must refer to the LBV? Or do we put the descriptor in the body of the tasting note?

Can I use two different scores like a Tom score AND a Parker score?

So what was the final decision?

YYYY House Style

Where do the scores go? In the title? At the end of the tasting note? In what format?

Once I get some clear guidance then I will try to find some time to paste some TNs into the TN section.

Its an interesting question to ask how people find port sites using Google or one of the other search engines. Personally, I usually use "Vintage Port" including the quotes. If I do that in Google then I start with the Symington's site (http://www.thevintageportsite.com), then Decanter mag...
