Also note the layout of the Symingtons’ placemats, which was partly responsible for inspiring the new /Gaia layout in the placemat software.

Re: 1994 Dow
http://www.jdawiseman.com/ftlop/20080930_dow_younger.gif 1994 Dow : at D+4h. An edge more opaque and purple than the ’91. Huge fruit. Much sweeter than ’91 (though not Baumé: 2.9°), less astringent, and more fruit grapey. Lovely. A Symington said ‟huge on palate, not on nose”. My notes also recor...

Re: 1991 Dow
1991 Dow: at D+4h. The first declaration since the ’85. Black purple, with that young-port stewed fruit. Very astringent. Too young. Baumé 3.3°.

http://www.jdawiseman.com/ftlop/20080930_dow_younger.gif 1985 Dow : at D+4h. Red, slightest hint of brown. First to show blackberry, and sugar. In the very late palate quite dry, but sweet early. Needs more time, after which it will be thoroughly excellent this bottle’s four hours decanting insuffi...

Re: 1983 Dow
1983 Dow: at D+4h. Much more opaque than the ’70 and ’77. Fascinating nose: mint, hay, flowers. Taste to match, mint and flowery freshness. Lighter thinner mouthfeel than older siblings, but lovely nonetheless.

Re: 1977 Dow
http://www.jdawiseman.com/ftlop/20080930_dow_older.gif 1977 Dow : at D+4h. Red with the slightest hint of purple. A slight vegetative note in the nose, especially relative to the ’70. Same flavour as the ’70, definitely siblings, but far hotter, and fruit no stronger. Baumé 2.9°. Actually good por...

Re: 1970 Dow
1970 Dow: at D+4h. Brick-red a perfect colour. Nose of red fruits, maybe cherry, no strong sugar. Mid-palate heat. Lovely, rounded mouth-filling red fruit, including grape. Very long. Soft mature port. 10/9. Baumé 3.4°.

two recorded centuries when there has been no signficant declaration with a year ending in a 9, and that makes the odds of no '9' years come out at something less than 1000:1 Assuming a constant declaration frequency of one-in-four, the probability that there is a digit such that, over two particul...

Re: Advice please Gentlemen
the total exclusion of '9' years - try working out the probability of that happening by chance Let’s assume that each year has a one-in-four chance of being declared, all years identically independently distributed. Then the probability that, during some particular century, no 9s are declared is (3...

The good ones have little nose and are very light, but delicious with a soft mouthfeel. Some are rough.
