Re: November Tasting - GC/SW/QH triple vertical

I would be interested in attending but I only have a 94 Quarles from memory so may need to buy in. I'll pm when I can check.

I would be interested in attending this one so could I please be placed on the reserves? I have something that should suit.

Thanks

Would there be any chance to attend or be placed on the reserves for this event?

Thanks

Re: Oddity

Hi Phil,

Did you post on the Aussie fora? i must have missed it. Liebich is specialist fortified producer from the Barossa. It would be a conventional vintage port style. Most likely Shiraz and/or Grenache. They are still in business so you could email them. Nice people.

1975 Dows Vintage Port

I received this wine as part of a job lot. Thankfully only the one. Opened with some bottle stink. Full tawny colour. Cleared up after a few hours to provide almonds and some caramel. Rancio on the finish. No heat as feared from other reports but not a patch on a good 20 year old tawny. 24 hours hou...

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Ocada are doing 25% off 6 bottles of wine purchased, including fortified. They have Noval 03 (£63), Fonseca G 1996 (£26) and Taylors QdV 2001(£26) amongst other LBV's and tawnys. Couple this with the code VOU2360693 to get an extra £15 off if it is your first order. Rough cost for a 6 packof TQdV i...

Ocado has 25% off so a few Noval blacks and 04 LBVs duly purchased. The 2003 Noval VP for £47 is calling me as well.

Drinking this one tonight. I think the sour cherry is bang on. I detect a little heat on the finish having popped and poured. Should mellow by tomorrow.

Better than my last bottle. Sadly it was a leaker and I suspect slightly oxidised. I shall look for more.

Thanks for the note. A birth year port and sounds like a nice one. I shall have to look around for some.

2007 Quinta do Vale Meao

Moving to the UK so drinking down the cellar. I know its young but what the heck. Dense limpid glass-staining colour. Smells very open with berries and spiced chocolate. Rich fruity palate. Plush and without heat. Tannins are just there but this is a open and approachable port. Very Good. After 12 h...

1970 Dow Vintage Port

This bottle was culled as there were old stains around the top. Fill down but still just in the neck. 0 hours: A pale red with clear rim. Tastes of aged dark rum (brown sugar) and liquorice. Long and sweet palate. Slightly warm finish. 6 hours: Colour deepening in intensity and hue. Red-brown colour...

Re: Corked & Cling Film

It works to remove TCA but it strips the wine to a certain extent as other flavour molecules associate with the plastic as well. But it is the only option at present for drinking the wine. I also find it useful for checking whether a wine that is closed is actually stripped due to TCA.

Re: A hello from Australia

Thanks for the welcome. I'm Australian but I spent a year working in the UK and it was that time that allowed me to start enjoying a few Portuguese ports. Port has a very small market in Australia but judging by auction prices, port is becoming more fashionable. I'm not sure if we can get an offline...

1991 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port

I have been reading for a while and so when I couldn’t find a tasting note on this port I thought I would oblige. +0 Garnet hue with a pale rim. A gentle spirituous nose with brown spice and cacao. Cacao strengthens on the palate and it is quite prickly with alcohol. No finish. +1 Spicy plums emerge...

A hello from Australia

Hi there. Long time reader, first time writer. I didn't see a note on the 1991 Smith Woodhouse so thought I would contribute one. Otherwise I mostly write on the Australian wine fora. I like most wine but vintage port has a special place in the heart.

cheers
