Re: 1985 Croft vintage port
1 hour later shows a nice mellowing and melding of fruit into a smokey tea profile. i should have had more when first opened, as i am really into fruit driven wines, but the hour change shows it still has that raspberry plus the smokiness. at this point, i think i like it better than you did, but ma...

i like the way you think.

1984 Kopke Colheita
1984 Kopke Porto Colheita raisins and honey, a bit thin (it followed the 77 fonseca), and alot of heat. about a 91 pointer for me. it was last of the evening of about 15 wines so my palate may have been a bit fatigued! 88) :| wine-searcher shows no availability in the USA (had this in montreal), i'...

3:15pm, removed capsule to find crusty/moldy growth. extracted mushy cork in two whole parts. poured thru unbleached paper coffee filter into a riedel funnel into a reidel decanter. noticed a slight brown coloring but still retaining a firm brick red at it's core. immediately poured about 1 ounce in...

Re: Name a WOW! port
twice this year, i've been fortunate enough to have mr roy hersh provide a 77 warre that grabbed my attention. between him and gman, who brought the 77 taylor fladgate to dinner, those two started to awaken the inner port lover that was trapped in me. i'd call them my "wow!" ports. thanks ...

N.V. Trevor Jones Jonesy Old Tawny Port
$7.99, pours a dark brown/slightly oily black. no detectable nose. 18% but no heat. nutty butterscotch molasses and brown suger coated dates. both oily and unctuous, i find none of the raisin/prune aspects that i read about on cellar tracker.
you guys will hate it.

i am prepared for the flaming :| , but i finally had a bottle of this and found it far from awful. it shouldn't be labeled "port", perhaps simply "dessert wine" would apply, but i noticed absolutely no heat on it's 18%, and found alot of fruit in there. from carmely dates/figs to...

i finally found my notes/impressions. my favorite two were: 1) taylor 85 - complex and young, milk chocolate cherries with cinnamon and dark berries. 2) gould campbell 83 - raspberry kirsch & dark chocolate cherries, just gorgeous. i guess in a way they now look vaguely similar but i don'...
