Re: Beijing 2008
More than 30 countries around the world are lagging behind the University of Cambridge on the Olympics medal front. Out of the ten Team GB athletes who either study at or have graduated from Cambridge, the University has racked up a stunning tally of one Gold medal, four Silver and one Bronze. In f...

Re: there goes the neighborhood!
Hello TBird. Welcome to :tpf: ThePortForum. Taylor 2003 eh? I am in my late thirties, and own none of this, partly because it is even money whether I will live long enough to taste it at its best. Maybe it will surprise and be mature in 2033, twenty-five years from now. But it’s as likely that it wi...

Re: Probably yes
My personal view is that if you are faced with a monster port that needs a long time to sort itself out in a decanter then you can safely assume that it will also sort itself out in a more leisurely manner if it is tucked away in a cellar for another decade or few. Intuitively, I feel that there mu...

Re: Nacional - Myth or Magic?
In too many vintages Nacional is poor or unremarkable (e.g., ’87). Those vintages should be drunk only by those who should or want to taste everything: the port gurus; the want-to-be port gurus; and the port-loving hobbyists. And very rarely. And at somebody else’s expense. In a few vintages Naciona...

The one 1982 I tasted, Noval, was poor. RP85 is delicious, especially for the price — I’ve had lots. RP83 is available, you live in a desert: do the obvious thing.

My taste in beer is rather conservative: beer like Timothy Taylor Landlord, London Pride, Harvey Sussex, Shepherd Neame Spitfire. So these seem rather adventurous for me.

Re: Double horizontal of ’83 and ’85, Melville, Sat 13 Sept ’08
So we have lost most of the port and most of the venue. I declare that planning for this tasting is going terribly. I’m not keen on post-port trains. And Eric will have to reach Outer Mongolia or somewhere (a suburb of ãûððýñððєšÃ°Ñ€ called something like New Jersey), so p...

Re: 1977 Graham's vintage port
Is it a fair assertion that if a port takes 12+ hours or so to open, that it can stand cellaring maybe another 10 years? Is there a relation to decanting time and potential cellaring? A splendid question, moved to a new thread entitled ¿Needs â”°Â¥12h in decanter ┡’ needs more time in cellar...
