Achoo!!

Have fun in a very neutral place.

Once you've seen the fountain and wondered about the beehive, try a swim in the lake.

Re: TPF Christmas 2009 Offline

PS As usual I don't know where to suggest this, so I'm just leaving it hanging in a post scriptum in the hope someone will notice and cope: could I request that someone with The Power adjusts the names of these threads once the date (for sure) and the venue (maybe) have been nailed, so that occasio...

Re: June 11th - The Leaky Bottle

Cheeses for Thursday evening have been obtained and stored in the "cellar" with the port. We will be able to enjoy Wigmore or Waterloo from Minute Maid Cheeses in Riseley or Barkham Blue or Blue Chase from Two Hoots Cheeses in Barkham. If anyone wants a hard cheese, then let me know and I ...

Re: TPF Christmas 2009 Offline

If possible I would like to attend as well. Since I have not been at the Bell before, may I ask how difficult it is to get there and back from/to London? regards WS1 It's not too difficult to get there - I think that Jacob did it by train last year. Getting back may be a bit more difficult if you w...

Re: Latest buy

I have some Croft '03 in storage. Now that it has closed down, I will leave mine alone for the at least 5 years. I might try one around 2014-5 to see how it is developing.

Re: Improving humidity

Alex, I can't really add anything to Tom's comments, but I wouldn't worry too much about the humidity levels of of the room where you store the wine. The key reason for storage with relatively high humidity is to reduce the likelihood of evaporation from the bottle or shrinkage of the cork. However,...

Re: Barca Velha

Without having tasted the 1991 vintage, I would have given completely opposite general advice to Andy. My experience of Barca Velha is that it is a big and long lived wine with the ingredients and components to live for a long time. But I guess that the only way you will know for sure is to open one...

Re: So, (what) will you be buying from the 2007's?

I did not buy any Capella. I did think about it, but wasn't that impressed by the wine and certainly didn't think it was worth a 66% premium over the regular wine. Plus the fact that if I had bought the Capella in the minimum quantity being offered (12 bottles) then I would have to miss out on one o...

Re: So, (what) will you be buying from the 2007's?

I've just ordered a case of Vesuvio (OK, so who is surprised by that?) and will probably order some other shippers' wines later in the year. Exactly which, I'm not sure since I haven't had chance to taste all of the one I would like to taste yet.

Re: An ethical dilemma

Tom, You don't need to bring anything to drink. I am providing all of the bottles we will be drinking on Thursday. All I'm asking of the folks attending is that they bring a non-leaky bottle with them to fill the hole that will be left in my collection. While you are very welcome to bring something ...

An ethical dilemma

I have a small ethical dilemma in front of me. Next week, a small assortment of UK based port drinkers are coming to my house to share some port. The theme for the ports is that they are all in need of being drunk, for various reasons - low fill, small leaks etc. All will be served blind, for the fu...

These photos are great and are really interesting to see. Please keep going with your quiz - I am really enjoying watching the people who know the quintas far better than me having their guesses.

I'd forgotten about our anniversary. I completely agree that we should celebrate it in some way and a virtual offline seems the most appropriate way possible. Last year's theme worked quite well, but I'd be very happy to support a much looser theme like "Open something for fun" where you c...
