Re: 1972 Offley

Final glass after five days. Left under VacUVin apart from the last 18ish hours.
The faint nose has now gone and there’s an unwelcome bitterness in the mouth.
Overall, a pleasant surprise but clearly not one for the future.
The rapid decline once un-VacUVined was interesting but not unpredictable.

At approx +100hrs no change.
I'm going to leave the VacUVin cork out and see if another 24 hours makes any difference.

Re: Taylor Single Harvest Tawny Tasting - 16 May 2024

I have a couple of bottles of the Ste. Eufemia Special Reserve White left and can bring one if we would like to add it to the tasting. I have both the normal bottle and the flared base bottle. AFAIK those are just different bottling runs for different markets, not different Ports. I think that soun...

It is definitely the 1970.

Re: Taylor Single Harvest Tawny Tasting - 16 May 2024

The Quevedo White was incorrectly described in the original list in the first post, but now updated. It’s actually the “Very Old…” so amendment required to placemats. To be fair, it depends whether you're looking at the box or the label. It is really "Quevedo 1970 white", but due to regul...

At +26 hours (under VacUVin)...

Nose has opened a bit, but only just. Some leather and wood now showing. Maybe some orange.
Mouth similar but with improved balance - alcohol less obvious now.

Holding up well.

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Some bargains in the Hedonism sale - Vesuvio Capela 2016 at £75 and Graham Stone Terraces 2015 at £100. Couldn’t resist one of each of those. Plus a whole bunch of young Tappit Hens which are not compatible with my other obligations at the moment. Nacional 1996 for £465, and 1999 for £495 also feel...

1972 Offley

The first of two bottles of Offley Boa Vista 1972 offered to me (as part of a mixed lot of Port for not very many £) by WineOwners in mid 2023. Grubby bottle, but level into neck and no obvious seepage. Cork saturated but managed to get it out in one piece. Fairly heavy sediment, but less than a bot...

Re: Taylor Single Harvest Tawny Tasting - 16 May 2024

First post has been updated to reflect statements of availabilty for 16 May 2024.

There are a few still to respond, but please note that at this stage I won't be adding anyone to the list of attendees. The maximum for this will be 12, but ideally I'd like 10.

There will be a reserve list.

Re: 2003 Wine Dinner - B&F - Mon 4 Dec 2023

Julian (quite sensibly) suggested that given the volume of wine being consumed it might be a good idea to have something eat eat alongside the Champagne.
