sounds quite different to my last 1995, hopefully mine was a bad bottle (I've had 2 bad and 2 good so there is some reason to suspect this).

It sure is! I really like the fact that I can forget to move the remains at the end of the day and expect it to be pleasurable tomorrow!

My favourite Niepoort too, I had been leaving mine well alone until they were 9 or 10 but I might be tempted to re-assess my planned 'dirnkogram' distribution and try on earlier. I found I have learnt quite a lot about port trying the old bottle from a bulk lot at various stages in its development.

wow, shame I had bought this as a cheaper port to drink over the next 5 years, I shall have to watch it evolve and try a bottle every now and then.

thanks for the notes

1995 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port

Prior to settling an overwhelmingly bitter aftertaste with a kick of mint at the beginning. After a day it settles a bit, nothing on the nose, honey initially followed by the mint and bitterness and a little heat. My least favoured vintage of vesuvio.

I think I will cope never liked the stuff (peanut butter), now cheese and jelly with port I could cope with but that probably deserves another thread

I would follow conky's abvice and compare 2 bottles around a tenner. I think the noval late bottled vintage is a pretty safe bet with a 10 year old tawny. Next I would keep your eye's open for some cheap bottles of single quinta from the last decade.

Happy to join the party too! Good timing my brother was looking for some every day port and this will do the job with a couple of QdN LBV's. Appears he drunk a mixed six pack of Vesuvio a little quickly :)

2007 - will it be a Vintage year?

Interesting (free for all) news article on Jancis site from Fladgate dropping the hint that they may declare (obviously they will be ramping any future vintage they need to sell).

ouch. Glad I did not bid against you, they also have a bizarre identity policy nowadays. Like I would launder money in GBP 400 boxes of port but never mind. I am just being lazy!

I can only drink it out the fridge. OK, I could drink it warm on a veranda in SA looking at an awesome view! Not convinced by the citric bit.

Me neither, never found VP needed them, tried sometimes on whites but nothing to compare with and I've come to the conclusion the evolution in the opened bottle is part of what I enjoy.

Have you tried the Bath Ales Wild Hare which Asda sells? I don't frequent Asda but its worth a visit since this is a nice hoppy golden ale that is great on a warm evening.

Talking to my friends in the fine art world they certainly think there is a correlation between different asset prices. They do expect a downturn to lead to lower prices. Looking forward to it :)
