Insolvency: what can happen to the contents of the cellar?

Split by jdaw1 from Latest buy , at the request of AHB. All bought at an online insolvency auction for very reasonable prices. Looking forward to pick them up on Thursday! :) We should probably have an informal agreement that should any member of :tpf: be about to be declared bankrupt, the rest of ...

Re: 2007 Vintage Port Declarations - discussion

One thing that strikes me about these prices is the divergence in price between the different merchants. For example Lea and Sandeman are £25 more than Seckford for the Noval and also have a minimum order of 12 bottles. Is this common? I can’t really see what value the more expensive places can brin...

Re: Glasses for the forum

What are people's thoughts on the stem architecture of the 'official' glasses? I'm not terribly enthused, personally; I think I'm happier with a conventional round stem.. I quite like it, as long as the logo is on the correct (i.e. the one opposite the notch) side! I'm not fond of it. It means ther...

Re: We're on Google!

I think Alex is referring to Google's Page Rank which is the internal algorithm used by Google to work out the general weighting to allocate to any given page.

The big difficulty is getting from 4 to 5 and beyond; that seems to require an exponential increase in the number of links to the site.

Re: Glasses for the forum

Can you find out from them how big the minimum order is and what pricing bands they use? An order for 100 might be quite straight-forward, whilst an order for 1,000 might be trickier!

Re: 1991 Fonseca Guimaraens

I just bought some cases of the Vargellas in the Netherlands at saint-vincent.nl. Reg bottles for 38 and Magnums for 82 EUR without Tax and Transport. Gerard, the owner is a very nice guy, but the offer he has online, is not accurate. So better call him for this. Assuming a "normal" excha...

Re: 1991 Fonseca Guimaraens

Thanks, Jacob, in the past the Fonseca was very much up to the height of its brother from Vargellas, which I acutally would prefer a bit, although both are superb wines and stil a bargain if you compare them to the 92s. Interesting that you say that. This is much more drinkable than the Vargellas ’...

Re: 1991 Fonseca Guimaraens

Is this in the 1/2 bottle format? I've tried to find a 750ml bottle but yet to no avail. Do you think there is life in this port for a few more decades? Yes, it is. I've been trying to build up my collection of halves as it's a size which I can happily drink without the bottle going off. I don't th...

1991 Fonseca Guimaraens

This is still a deep red, but not entirely opaque. 1+ On the nose, there’s a little bit of spirit concealing a small amount of dark fruit-cake and raisins. In the mouth, although still young is approachable and well-balanced; with layers of different flavours rushing through. The initial one is domi...

You covered a range: bin 27 to N31! Did anybody’s ranking have those two in the cost-efficient order? Unfortunately, we drank the Bin 27 sighted so we weren’t able to decide that it was better than all the others and switch to online poker as a use of our disposable incomes! That said, as someone wh...

Annoyance. The US Immigration people, currently in possession of things relating to my Green Card, have written requesting further ‟evidence of a good faith marriage”. Is that really what they want? Proof that we are raising our children in a religious manner, and that our marriage is in other way...

The Patek Philippe Museum is so monumentally silly that it's worth a look. I quite liked the UN Buildings but that's probably more of a specialist interest!

Interesting that TVVV is already sold out.
I've been surprised at the number of places where it has sold out, although I suppose release quantities must be tiny.

Has anyone seen the Cockburn (or Quinta dos Canais) for sale?

I have a feeling we've discussed this before, though I can't find the thread. The words Port of the 1945 vintage seem to suggest that it's not a full Vintage, though I suppose it could quite easily be a Ruby or the equivalent of an LBV.

Getting there is fine; it’s about an hour on the train from Liverpool Street to Audley End and then about 5 minutes walking (though check the map beforehand as it’s completely dark when you arrive). I think there are a couple of trains an hour. I’d also suggest staying in a hotel as the last train l...

Dear Sir or Madam, This is a request under s.1 Freedom of Information Act 2000 for information into the Vintage Port currently held in the Government Hospitality Wine Cellar (the ‟Cellar”).
