Re: Port cocktails

I'm quite proud of my negroni. I use 1 part campari, 1 part gin, 1.5 parts of Quevedo White port in my negroni. the Quevedo has a touch more woodiness and less acidity making it a very fine Dolin sweet vermouth replacement. Hmm...I hadn’t thought of using a white Port and will have a go at this, al...

1997 Quinta do Vesuvio

Decanted for 5 hours prior. The nose on the entry represented plush plums with just a very slight touch of bramble. The palate follows through with plums mixed with cinnamon spices. A bit one dimensional but the spirits are well integrated giving a smooth well rounded mouthfeel if albeit simple. 89 ...

Saturday 5/23 9pmEST Virtual tasting for folks state side

It took a pandemic and a bunch of stay at home orders to finally get the state side folks in for a tasting but we did it right. we had the 5 states of WA, NJ, NY, CT, MA represented in this tasting. We tried a guess the wine format, and were surprisingly fairly successful in vintage guessing. House ...

Re: Lockdown Drinking

As someone who h as been locked up for 2 months in New York in heavy quarantine, I've sorted my cellar by cellar tracker and decided a 96 A. Rousseau Gevrey Chambertin was called for. But I've seen my fellow wine lovers done better. I truly hope everyone is at least opening that nice bottle to enjoy...

Re: The ports you haven't got round to stocking up on...

Not the first time the 1878 with the label has popped up in market, albeit with a different bottle shape.

Latest one appears to be a regular 750ml bottle with no punt vs the pic in this TPF LInk

Another Forum based around dry wines seems to have a little more info, but also unverified

a great idea for a future tasting, but I've probably killed so many of my taste buds drinking straight up gin that I am personally way out of practice!

Saturday 5/23 9pmEST Virtual tasting for folks state side

Or if anybody is awake they are more than welcome to join. Being in NY has been a bit stressful to say the least, including trying to figure out how to make a living =) But if anybody is around for a virtual offline I'd certainly be up for popping a btl or two. Theme will be, open anything you want ...

Re: The ports you haven't got round to stocking up on...

I've managed to find some odd balls in an 1837 Justerini & Brooks and a 1878 Brooks Royal Coronation Port.

The port I'm still looking to stock up on are 60's Fonsecas as I seen to have a bad habit of drinking them all.

if you guys are still interested in running this tasting blind, I'm happy to volunteer since I would have no vested interest in guessing the bottles being across the Atlantic. I'd ask folks to take a vote and however you guys decide if you want a blind or not, I will then propose a method for lettin...

Re: Wed 1 March 2019 - The Eastern seaboard Vesuvio Box tasting

This review is not a great advert for Vesuvio from this era. The 1994 seems to have been popular in the tastings on both sides of the pond but the others are variable to say the least. Maybe this is just a case of SFE spending a decade finding their way with a previously neglected vineyard? Perhaps...

And being in the distribution market in NY, it's very unlikely you'd be offered enough to make it worth your while =) It would appear the most prudent advice is to take a trip out to sunny California and enjoy the nice weather. Or go into business with me, as I have easy access to West coast market...

Re: Vintage port terrible teens?

Thanks! And to clarify: A "horizontal" = tasting different ports all from the same year (e.g. '94 Dow, '94 Warre, '94 Graham, etc.), whereas a "vertical" = different vintages from the same winery (shipper)? Is that right? Correct. And looking at the main page of the forums, the ...

The fun part about being with the port community is that folks are quite diligent about trying/posting and sharing ports and notes, allowing another fellow forumite to make their own informed decisions fitted to their tastes! Unfortunately there is no hard rule, my "dumb phase" starting at...

Re: Sell collection

I paid GBP 75 per bottle (just under USD 100) last time I bought Graham 1963. That's the market I am able to buy in. That's why I told you the offer you had was one you would be wise to accept. If my maths is right, K&L paid you 80% of $375 = $300 for your bottles. Maybe I should be arbitraging...

As noted from the Port Vintages book, ordered from Berns Steakhouse in Tampa Florida on Feb 09, 2019. Decanted for 30 minutes before drinking. What a lovely rich milky bouquet. Malty, rich, black cherries and plums. The palate shows a lovely rich milk chocolate mixed with freshly ground cinnamon and...

I'll be honest to say that I'm curious as to the retail shop who's willing to offer 80% wine searcher average prices.
Here in NY, you'll usually look for 60-70% wine-searcher low.

Opened 24 hours and left in open decanter. On initial open, notes of eucalyptus, wintermint on the nose.
