Re: 1985 Graham

60% opacity, deep red. Nose he candy and strawberry. Smooth entry, nice rounded mouthfeel, good fruit level, strawberries. Nice long aftertaste and great balance. Superb specimen of G85. Possibly the best bottle of this I have tasted.

Re: 1985 Dow

40% opacity, brown-red, cloudy. Muted nose. Lacking some structure. Sweetness and some heat but no backbone. Watery finish. Not the best bottle it must be said. VA affected? I have to hope the remaining 11 from the case are better than this :|

Re: 1983 Dow

85% opacity, deep dark red. Fruit and tannin, lacking some acidity. Very soft and smooth. Spice and tobacco. Nice port, drinking well now and will last some time and develop further I think.

50% opacity, warm red. Fruit and tannin, syrupy mouthfeel which has heat mid palate, some spice.

Re: 1980 Graham

75% opacity, dark red. Some heat across the palate, dry fruit - strawberry and damsons. Heads toward a tannic finish with some heat. Quite sharp alcohol. Re-reading this note, it sounds a tad harsh, while I recall enjoying the G80. Again like the D80 I think this one will become a superstar. Buy som...

Re: 1980 Dow

80% opacity, deep deep red. Muted nose, dark fruits. Deep fruit on the palate, to a finish of big dry tannin. Alcohol also to the fore. All the ingredients are there, bit unintegrated right now perhaps. Suspect though that this will come together into a stunning port in the next 5-10 years. I will b...

Re: 1970 Graham

30% opacity, red-brown, orange-yellow rim. Hints of menthol and tobacco. Lovely syrupy mouthfeel, tingling heat mid to late palate. Muted oranges with a long long aftertaste. Very nice indeed, very true to G70 traditions.

Re: 1970 Dow

45% opacity, warm red, slight cloudiness. Smooth entry, medium bodied, very gentle head in the finish. Quite fruity, redcurrants, nice round mouthfeel. Good balance although tannins muted. Some thought this slightly flawed. I didn't notice on the night - perhaps the darker hue suggest faint TCA? Oth...

Re: 1963 Graham

10% opacity, butterscotch. Nose tawnied, veering toward varnish. Tasted wrong, not undrinkable but a very sharp bitter edge. Various theories on the source of the failings. I suspect some combination of heat and light at play.

Re: 1963 Dow

25% opacity, red-amber, copper rim. Quite short on the palate with a slight burnt citrus edge which lingers long on the aftertaste. Easily wins over a flawed G63, but not a stellar bottle of D63.

Re: 1960 Graham

25% opacity, wonderful red-Amber with a copper rim. Nose of menthol and mint. Lovely gentle smooth entry, some heat mid palate which lingers into the finish. Some bite with the heat, and some faint hints of dried orange peel. At 56 years young, still retaining a fabulous structure. Wonderfully elega...

Re: 1960 Dow

25% opacity, orange-brown with a copper rim. A wonderful burst of flavours right across the palate. Oranges in there. Very fine and enjoyable port. Finish not quite as impressive as the G60 tasted alongside.

More about David here . Oscar needs no further introduction. :D :D Turning to the port, I was really looking forw...

Decanted 27 hours in advance at 1500 on Wednesday. Looks and smells very fine. Surprisingly long cork which came out neatly in one go.
