BBR port walk - 2015

Post by JWEW »

The BBR port walk will be held on two dates again this year, Thursday 26th and Friday 27th November 2015.

I shan't be there, won't be able to get back from Antarctica in time.

Please buy me a ticket for the Thursday (I haven’t been invited, and can’t find it on the website.) Thank you.

I don't expect to be able to make the date for BBR this year, as I'll be at Axel's Fonseca tasting that weekend.

I now have my ticket secured.
Learning points from last year.
Get there early, before doors open, to maximise sampling time. Greet JDAW at head of queue.
When interesting talk starts, dash to back so talk augments rather than pauses essential sampling.

I liked it too.
But I understand that it distracts from the main reason to go to the PortWalk.

Last year I accepted, and it was certainly a nice enough glass, but I think this year I will go straight for the port. Single minded focus!

I managed to get 2 tickets for this on the Friday evening and had hoped to take Mrs D along, but she is no longer available. So a ticket for Friday is on offer to fellow :tpf: folk if you would like to join me?

Who is going to this on the Thursday? I received an email from BBR asking who I want to be seated with and who my guest is.

Am I bringing a guest? If so, please could my guest remind me who they are?

I got a similar email - I assumed the guest prompt occurred because I bought two tickets. My guest is some guy Wiseman....
I assumed the stuff about seating and dietary requirements was just a standard paragraph on their events emails, relevant for the dinners they run, but in this case irrelevant (unless the port walk format has been changed).

I agree...but I have a vague recollection that I bought two tickets and passed one on to someone else. I just can't remember who!

I'm assuming the "who do you want to sit with?" questions was rhetorical and that we will be free to stand with whom we wish.

That would be me Alex (you kindly secured the last ticket then available whilst we were both present at an earlier tasting-payment having been remitted subsequently) :D

I emailed BBR and they confirmed this event is standing as usual; apparently a large man from Streatham will make an announcement later in the evening that a thing called the Port Forum exists and that its members are all really nice people with excellent cellars.

I will ask permission to make such an announcement, and iff permission is granted, will then do as you say.
