I can strongly recommend the usefulness of these:

Far safer than boxes when climbing or descending stairs and much easier to have one in each hand than carrying a carton. They are also remarkably stable in cars - they don't readily fall over nor slide around.
OK, they make you look like someone out of a fairytale - but they work!
