Best Port You've Ever Rated?

Post by mosesbotbol »

What's the best port you have ever rated? Have you ever rated a port 100 points (or perfect score for what ever system you are using)?

The highest rating for a port I can think of that I have had was for 1908 Grahams, which I gave 97 points. I can be stingy on the points, but this one lived up to it! Behind the Grahams was a 40's Niepoort Garafeira; can't recall which year is was as we've had several different years and it's blurrr... That was probably 96 points?

For me it was definitely the Noval 31, closely followed by the 63 Nacional. I rated both of them 20/20.

I have never rated ports because I don't feel that I have sufficient breadth of experience yet. However, if I had a system I suspect that the 1906 Brunheda Colheita would have received a perfect score. I could find nothing wrong with it, and I spent quite a while searching.

I've never rated a port at 100/100 points. The closest I have got to that was when draining the dregs of a 1963 Nacional 24 hours after the bottle had been opened and decanted for a tasting. The port was absolutely divine, as close to a perfect port as I have yet found and I gave it 99/100. I Didn't give it 100/100 as I was sure - at the time - that it would improve a little with more bottle age and therefore it deserved to be able to gain another point.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

I've had some very old ports which I enjoy for the moment and history but there is nothing better than a port on the plateau for me national 66 at the tasting(the fonseca was just beaten but in my opinion will improve or last longer)
