Which would you rather have?

Post by Portman »

I have the opportunity to own either a bottle of

1977 Taylor

or

2000 Taylor Vinha Velha

Im actually leaning toward the 77 because I have so little older port in my cellar. Thoughts?

Tough one probably the VV too although the 1977 is a cracking bottle if you get a good one.

Go with your instinct and buy the T77...

...then go back after pay day and buy the TVVV2000

I'd get the 1977 Taylor... it's a fantastic Port. I haven't been all that impressed by the VVVs that I have tasted. They're very good, but I have yet to taste one that surpasses the same-year Taylor.

T77 - go for a known great Port, not just the hype.
Port is basically a red drink

2000 Taylor Vinha Velha all the way.

1977 Taylor is all over the place and you can buy at any time. The Taylor VV's are already rare and going to command a big some in 10-15 years. You'll be kicking yourself if you pass on it (assuming the price is decent).

This seems like an easy decision. Which did you wind up with Gman?

It was Portman who posed the question.

I went with the Taylor 1977, mostly because I dont want yet another great bottle in my cellar that I can only look at with unrequited love for 20 years. Cant wait to get my teeth purple on this one. Bill
