Casa do Douro Colheitas

Post by RonnieRoots »

Back in 2004 the Casa do Douro released two colheitas from their own stock: a 1963 and a 1964. A million bottles were made, and at the time they were sold at respectively 40 and 35 euros. The original idea was that these bottles would be only available to people living or born in the Douro valley, and that it should be a one time only opportunity. LadyR and I managed to buy a couple of bottles (using LadyR's short skirt to bribe the people at CdD). A TN and some info by StevieCage can be found here.

The main aim of this whole operation was of course to raise money, as the CdD was as much in financial trouble then as it is now.

I always thought this port was either sold out, or taken off the market after the release in 2004, but when we passed the CdD offices in Regua last December, we noticed a banner still promoting these ports. And if I'm not mistaken, they're still the same price. The operation clearly wasn't the success they hoped for! We didn't buy any, but it would be interesting to taste this again.

Did any of you buy and taste this?

!!!

As a 1964 Vintage myself, I'd love to get some of the 1964. I don't care whether or not it is good... it's a 1964, so I want it.

Next time you're in Regua, make sure to go to the CdD office and buy some!

Do you have any idea how much they might have left?

I plan to be in the Douro this fall, or have been offered help with a purchase/pickup in late Spring. But if their stocks are still good after 6 years there probably isn't any real chance of them running out so I wouldn't have to worry about it.

I don't know but I guess they have plenty left. Shouldn't be a problem to pick some up in the fall.

A good source in Porto managed to get me a bottle or two of these. This is how they look like.

As Ronnie already mentioned they are strictly for private consumation, reselling is not permitted.

Here is what they look like:

Same here, since I'll be heading through Regua anyways I'll see if I can't buy some. At that price it's worth it just to see how good it is.

The do have some white colheitas as well, but my source said not to worry, there are hundreds of bottles left. I will try to find out the story about it. To me it appears that some big contract blew and they had the ports left from it.

I will be in Regua on May 20th to 23rd and will keep you updated. There is a wine and tourism festival where I have been invited to.
