And what's wrong with a strange childhood? Are you dissing my strange childhood?

The Glayva reference was hardly from my childhood though.

12th July is some sort of meaningful day in Scotland. It is either the opening of the Grouse shooting season or the day when men with orange sashes walk through the streets of lanarkshire towns beating drums and blowing flutes in celebration of the life and times of a Dutchman named Billy

Either way, next Thursday is fine with me

Good point, the Irish go a bit weird as well. Something about Billy beating up Jimmy and Jimmy running away. Everybody hated Jimmy for it and he was forever known as a girly wuss. Norhern Ireland has a day off for the Billy men.

Is that when the Irish Billys celebrate the Dutch??? Its all very confusing. We'll be a lot better off staying home and getting drunk.

That's it. They go to Jimmy's patch and stick their tongues out, embarrassing all the bhoys over there, who get grumpy because they think Jimmy was a wuss as well but really hate the Billy men sticking their tongues out and saying "nah nah nah nah nah".

Actually, it's

Nah, nah-nah-naaah, nah, nah naaah, nah-nah
nah-nah, nah, nah, nah-nah-nah-naaaah
It was on on the 12th nah, nah, nah-nah
nah-nah-nah, nah, nah, nah-nah, naaaaah

Incidentally, Jimmy's my uncle :?

You should now take this to the Meaningless Drivel and explain how the Orange men go back to Holland. Ferry???

I'd take quite a few of the Posts to Meaningless Drivel!

I don't think we strayed too far away from the topic - we are doing this on the 12th aren't we?

So its this Thursday? Me, KillerB and Derek. Anyone else confirmed?

I suggest decant at 5/6ish, start sipping on the hour, and drinking seriously from 9ish? Save one glass for the following evening?

Any amendments? We all do the same or the comparisons lose their relevance.

I can't commit to the early start as some of us have to work for a living  - will probably pop mine the night before or early morning and stick straight in the fridge.

If we want to expand the group why don't we do it in 2 or 3 weeks time after I have given Lord & Lady Roots a bottle to take home for themselves and Stevie

Derek

PS: The last paragraph of the above post is sincere. Hwever, it would also allow me to avoid disappointing either Corky or my gorgeous and understanding partner, Jo, whom I have just promised to take out for a meal on Thursday night because I have been away so much with work recently :?

I like the concept of the simultaneous tasting. If I'm around and free on the day (finally) chosen then I will take part.

If I'm not around then I won't take part!

No problem, Ronnie - at £5 each I think I can spare one of the 2 dozen I have left

Derek

Edit: On re-reading the above I realised that this may be interpreted as a request for £5 in exchange for the bottle. It isn't. The bottle will be a small gift for you and Lady Roots from the UK contingent

I'm glad this has been delayed, for a bit. I have a lead on a local merchant with Warre's LBV from 95. Hopefully I can get out there in the next day or so.

Like Derek, I have been going crazy... at work (and outside of it too!) :)

I have had the dirty (rolling around in the boot that hasn't been cleaned since four trees were transported when we moved) bottle standing on death row for over a week now. I know it won't lose anything in that time but I feel sorry for it.

As the Rootses will be taking home their rations for themselves and Stevie at the end of this week, shall we make a it definite for Thursday next week (26/7)?

We can do 26/7 but Stevie won't be able to taste ours then. We'll be on holiday in Italy, but it seems like fun to taste the port on a camping somewhere. We'll add TN's when we get the chance.

I'm off on my travels again and didn't bring my bottle with me so won't be able to take part in the tasting.

However, please don't wait for me to be able to take part as this is likely to be sometime after the middle of September! My diary is truly horrible for the next 6 weeks.

This is my last chance to check the forum. We'll drink the port the 26th and post notes once we get back (August 20) or if we find an internet café somewhere down the road.

There's still no rush.

Ronnie wouldn't be able to post regularly during the evening, which is the whole point.
Todds still looking and AHB is out of circulation for a few weeks.

I've been ready every week, but I'd rather have 6 of us and wait, than 3 of us and do it this week. Its just a good idea and hopefully fun. It'll keep.

W’s LBV ’95

Post by jdaw1 »

I have found on the internet W’s LBV ’95: so, if it is before the 1st of August (after which I’m away), and ideally not on a Thursday, I could join, as might a booze-tastic friend in NYC.

Of course, my|our posts will be some hours behind those resident in the old world.
