shipped by A. Reis & Co Ltd

Post by JB vintage »

Hi,
We recently had a bottle of "A. Reis" 1967 vintage port. Does anyone know anything of this house? I cannot find anything mentioned about this house anywhere.

That's a new name to me. Any chance of a picture of the label or cork or capsule or selo?

Could it be associated with the Silva Reis family and thus be a brand of Royal Oporto / Real Companhia Velha? Just a guess...

We thought is was Silva-Reis at first but his name is Manuel Silva Reis and on this bottle it says A. Reis & Co so that indicates that it is probably not connected directly to Silva Reis or Real Cia Velha. Reis is not an uncommon name in Portugal so I believe it is another Reis family.

I'll organize pictures.

Picture of the bottle.

I hope this would help in identifying the producer of this vintage port.

We do not know which Port House these Wine Merchants have bottled
!
• Hedges-Butler
We have had an H&B bottling of N63.

PS: the attempt to prevent copy-pasting is both ineffective and annoying.

To the best of my knowledge, Gilbey only bottled Croft.

I believe Hedges and Butler and Harveys bottled more than one brand.

We have no information about the producer Comp. Uniao des Vinhos do Porto e Madeira with brands like
Aguila
Cabraco
Calvares
Dom Joaquim
Magales
This is Gran Cruz, or better said, their parent company La Martiniquaise.

The following is a list of declared vintages that we have seen referenced in one place or another, but the sources are somewhat inreliable and we have not been able to confirm these vintages. If you have any information about these we would be thankful.

- The Nacional vineyard was planted in about 1926, so there is no NN24 or NN27

- I can confidently say that there are no 1956 declarations.

- Rumours of 1929s seem to stem from people reading the corks of '27s and spotting the bottling date. Despite it being an excellent Bordeaux vintage, I have never come across a 1929 VP (Offley may exist)

Can't see the symbol - are you saying that Pisca 08 and Bioma Vinha Velha 08 are different ports....? I disagree.

Each page has a picture, and of different-looking bottles.

each page of what? Certainly not the current Niepoort website itself, notwithstanding you have found an old link that is still active.

From what i understand, the Pisca 08 bottles were made, the marketing materials produced, it was then discovered shortly before bottling that the name could not be used. There was then a scramble to get new bottles made, and there was actually less Bioma Vinha Vehla bottled than originally planned because there weren't enough bottles available in time. But this is old news - it was discussed in the thread you linked to.

Maybe they can help

Can see the bottel has a Danish name on, in Copenhagen
Any time not spend drinking port, is a waste of time.
