Hello.

Niepoort 1896: interesting. Please say where you are — in which country. Please say how you came to be in the possession of such things. Please say where they have been stored, by you at least. And photographs, of bottles, labels, capsules, and light behind showing level, would all be welcome.

I’ve just realised that you are the same Matthew selling 2007 VP and Burmester Colheita 1950 1960 1963. Presumably these are also

Have you read the forum note on private sales? Why are you posting photographs of boxes, and not photographs of bottles? There are many here (not me, I'm a novice) who can determine a great deal from decent photographs, and have great experience purchasing port from all manner of sources. You're more likely to get a fair offer if people can see exactly what you are selling.

Perhaps meaning this.

Though I agree with your sentiment, it might be that the boxes, presumably of the 2007s, are unopened. In which case it is better that they stay unopened.

Particularly of old bottles such as a pair of Niepoort 1896. Especially as pre-1927 Niepoorts are extremely rare.

Yes, you're right, the closed boxes should remain closed. I was drawing the parallel of the Burmester 50 60 63 and Niepoort 1896 without photographs when the posting of photographs here has been mastered. Apologies for my impatience. I'm sure all will be clear soon.

If you have pictures available, or can take pictures as you post your offers, it would save considerable time to upload a picture with each post. That way we can see the bottle that you have to sell without having to email you for it.

Hello, could you post a couple of close-up photos of the selo and the label? And the capsule as well if possible. That would be great! If this is authentic it may be that an auction is best for you, as you could probably attract some very serious buyers there (we are quite serious).

Fair enough; but I don't think you'll get £3800 for these bottles here. You might get a good price at auction, however.

If you are determined to get this price, the place to get it is at auction. It seems unlikely that anyone here has £3800 to spend on these, lovely as they undoubtedly are.

It has been my experience that Niepoort has a rather inflated view of the value of their own wines. They have gone so far as to claim that Garrafeira Nacional, a store not known for having good prices, was underselling some of their older bottles. You should not expect to receive anything remotely close to what Niepoort may have suggested. Or, perhaps Niepoort themselves would like to buy your bottles for that price?

Your only chance to receive such prices would be to do as djewesbury has suggested and sell your bottles at auction.

It wasn't long ago that we were able to purchase 1900 Niepoort Colheita for ~$400/bottle. Note: Dollars, not Euros or Pounds. 1900 GBP is a very optimistic price.

Glenn's right. This is not to suggest your bottles aren't good but that we may not be the right market for them.

Excellent, congratulations. You did very well.
Christies sold a bottle which sounds very similar in Geneva on 12-13 Nov 2013, Sale 1399 Lot 82, for $899.
Item Description "Niepoort's Blue Ribbon Port Vintage 1896".
Very well done indeed.
