2005 Krohn Retiro Novo

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Wiese & Krohn. Deep red in colour with a narrow rim and an opaque centre. Little shows on the nose other than a faint hint of menthol. Sweet strawberries dominate the entry, with some sherbet coming through on the mid-palate. But the fruit is so sweet as to give an impression of rather a flabby port. There is a bit of acidity to provide some balance and there are some soft tannins but overall this is not a well balanced port. The aftertaste is better with the tannins showing gently and a sweet strawberry sherbet finish. Too sweet and unbalanced for my taste. 83/100. 06-May-15.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
