2013 Quinta do Vesuvio

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

1500 cases made. Cask sample. More deep in purple tone than the Senhora da Ribeira shown alongside. Focused and concentrated blackcurrants with lovely lavender tones on the nose. Sweet and smooth entry, full of fruit with a dry and powerful tannic core lurking almost hidden under all the fruit. The acidity provides a nice foil to the ardent fruitiness of the palate. The aftertaste is huge and fruity, led by the blackcurrants but this fruitiness is surprisingly clipped but is replaced by a lovely fragrant flower-perfume and black chocolate finish that lingers for a long time. This is a well made port that shows more power than elegance at the moment. 89-91/100. May 2015.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
