From the ‘Emergency’ 1985 horizontal on Wednesday 26th December 2007, in which we tasted Dow 1985, Infantado 1985, two bottles of Ramos Pinto 1985, Graham 1985, Warre 1985, Croft 1985, and Offley 1968 Colheita.

The following day, Thursday 27th December 2007, these bottles were joined by Taylor 1985 and Andresen 1985.

Warre 1985: slightly cloudy, with a hint of purple and lots of red. Initially, at D+0, little aroma, and thin, weakly hot and very unimpressive. But an hour later an excellent port, resembling the Warre 1985s I have enjoyed over the last few years, though thinner than usual. It will be interesting to see how this performs tomorrow.

smell out of the bottle had some funk (cork?) but it blew off and turned into one of the best wines of teh flight.

initially I had it as a "soapy" nose with a slight woody undertone.
a nutty musty nose with a bitter tobacco finish that ends in a tart twist.

After the hour or so decant red and purple fruit emerged with a sweet honey undertone.

still a slight greenish tone, but a sweet cedar wood with a spicy 30 second finish.

Hangover gone; glasses cleaned; dinner cooking. Time to write-up my tasting notes.

On the second day the Warre was dark, with “lots of red†, and nosing of a “mystery red fruit†. Medium weight, medium length, not at all unctuous. Some spice at the end. JG found “raspberries on the stem†, and there was something green in it. Very respectable drinking port, though not academically excellent.

I liked the Warre 1985. Very dark in color, nose a bit subdued, but still very nice: blueberry pie and black tea. Dark chocolate and spice (allspice) on the palate, rather thin mouthfeel. 89 pts.
