2000 Sandeman

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

From one of the commemorative double magnums presented at the 225 anniversary party at the Don. Free poured, not decanted and so slightly gritty. Deep red in colour with a slightly mature tone to the edge; opaque centre. A wonderful nose of rich and leafy fruit, stewed and full of sous bois. Smooth texture on entry, bringing slightly bruised sweet fruit at first but this is quickly followed by a wave of powerful tannins that grips but never dominates. A delicious mouth presence although not much complexity at this time. Lovely sweet golden sultanas on the finish, which has great length. This is astonishingly balanced and together for such a young port. 90/100. Drunk 10-Nov-15. Decanting time N/K. Presented at the Sandeman 225 anniversary celebration at the Don.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
