From a parcel of 8 bottles which Tom and I shared, this is the first to be opened. The bottling date is not stated on the label, but judging by the appearance of the bottle it is judged that this was bottled in the late 1800s or early 1900s. However, this was clearly a colheita-style wine from the small amount of fine sediment in the bottle.

Olive wood colour with a narrow green rim. Gentle nose of sea salt and iodine with a hint of green tea. Marmite and treacle on the palate with hints of rosemary on the mid-palate. Sweet and sugary but with decent acidity; the acidity gives a flush of heat at the start of the aftertaste before a delicious treacle and burnt sugar finish. 89/100. Drunk 16-Dec-15. Decanted 3 hours.

Drunk at Lunch at Otto's on Wednesday 16 December 2015.
