Fonesca '77 decanted at 13:30; looks and smells fabulous.

Deep red, like a polished conker; 50% opaque. Restrained on the nose, showing a littl harsh cranberry. Sweet fruit on the palate, with tannins supporting a smokey red and purple plum fruit essence. Lots of lavender on the mid-palate mixed in with the fruit. This develops into a big mouthful of flavour. The aftertaste is slow to develop but becomes chewy and full of sticky redcurrant. This is great port, still many years from its peak. 95/100. 08-Feb-16. Decanted 7 hours.

F77 A big powerful port, but lacking the finesse of the F70. Great on all levels, but so big it needs time to soften slightly. I look forward to hopefully trying this port lots over the next decade or two.

F77. Dark red, 70% opaque. Full, with dark plum. Grape-pip bitterness. Excellent, but ending slightly lighter than it should be.
