Deep red in colour, just starting to hint at bricking; 90% opaque. Gentle red fruit on the nose mixed with crushed nettle leaves. Smooth in texture with richly flavoured red licorice and very sweet blueberry. Soft tannins lie at the core of this port which, on the palate, is full of brown sugar and masses of fruit. Acidity and pepper show on the late palate mixed into the fruit and sugar. There is some gentle heat on the aftertaste then a gently tannic finish. A touch sticky at the end, full of strawberry jam. Good balance; comes across as a young but matue port. Guessed to be Dow 1997. 90/100. 15-Feb-16. Decanted 12 hours.

T85 70% opacity, very dark in colour. Lots of berry fruits on the nose. Slight spices showing on this big port with a wonderfully balanced amount of heat on a long finish. A really fine T85, that like the SW77 was showing young and has years to go. Served blind this was guessed to be a T77 for 1 point.

T85: dark dark red, 80% opaque. Palate soft, but slightly hollow. Not up to the best of T85’s usually excellent standards.
