Mature red colour, 60% opaque. Little on the nose at first apart from some harsh rose-hip but slowly a lovely, fat and mature port started to appear full of round and sweet fruit. Full bodied and thick in texture on the palate, deeply flavoured and intense. The palate is full of rich fruit giving a massive mouthful of flavours with a great backbone of acidity providing structure now that most of the tannins have faded away. Powerful and intense on the finish witha slight green woodiness on the late palate and aftertaste with a touch of heat before a long and lovely finish. Served blind this was guessed to be Fonseca 1970.

I was astonished when this was revealed to be Warre 1974 LBV - just reinforcing my view that this is an amazing port. 92/100. 15-Feb-16. Decanted 10 hours.

Warre 1974 LBV (unfiltered - Bottled 1978) A beautiful mature port, with a rich complex marrying of flavours, even a touch of horseradish showing throwing. A wonderful long finish, with a smoothness of balanced heat that left the palate wanting more. This is the first 'mature' LBV that I have enjoyed and I hope to try many more. Delicious.

W74 LBV: glorious red, 40% opaque. Palate of red cherries, a hint of grass, and quite sweet. Spirit starting to show, but nicely. My third place, behind the SW77.
