2013 Quinta do Vesuvio

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottle 3294 (bottles 3528 and 3583 were also present). Deep red with a purple-crimson rim, opaque. A wonderful floral nose of sour blackcurrants and hyacinth perfume - inviting. Smooth texture full of ripe violet fruit, soft and sensual. The tannins are initially smothered by the fruit while the powerful and perfumed palate provides structure. The palate carries a wonderful lightness and delicacy to the palate. Fragrant aftertaste, mixing fruit with burnt toast leading to a long finish of Bertie Bassetts black licorice sweets. This is a lovely delicate and elegant port with a long future ahead of it from the acidity. 91/100. 24-Feb-16.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
