2013 Bulas

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

A harvest when the rain started on September 20th and didn't stop, potentially reducing the quality of a crop that had grown through a dry and hot summer.

Deep purple in colour with a narrow rim. Balanced nose, astringent and powerful but bringing cornflower perfume with the fruit; mouthwatering in its intensity. Sweet fruit comes through on the entry with plenty of sweet blackcurrant underlined by a strong acidity at the core. This wine has a lovely elegance to the palate and the cornflowers come through strongly on the late palate. The tannins are soft but the blackcurrant flavours persistent and chewy on the finish. Surprisingly delicious to drink now. 86-88/100. Tasted 02-Mar-16.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
