2013 Niepoort Bioma

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Crimson in colour with a medium rim. Sweet on the nose with none of the sharpness of the Quinta dos Muros or the Bulas tasted alongside. Instead this is slightly spicy and complex, fat and inviting - reminding me of freshly baked home made ginger shortbread. Sweet and floral on entry with a hint of the ginger. Powerful tannins pucker the mouth but the lovely floral tones never disappear. The flowers show up on the aftertaste but a bit of heat appears on the finish before the tannins take over. 89/100. Tasted 02-Mar-16.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
