Within the regulation week of DRT’s 51st birthday, we (DRT, JDAW, IDJ, AHB, THRA, SCD, CPR, ARM, and TC) brought “a bottle of VP, blind or sighted” to the Boot and Flogger.

A dark shade of mahogany red. 40% opaque. Lovely nose, bringing red red toffee apples, some fresh acidity and a good dose of sugar. A sense of bitterness on entry, like an unripe apple but offset by a burnt caramel. A touch of fragrance is brought out with air, accompanied by a strong acidity. The aftertaste is slightly fiery and precedes a long finish of cracked black peppercorns and burnt sugar. Pleasant, but a little too sweet. 85/100.

N70. Pink-red, 40% opaque. Palate, mid to light weight, with mint and strawberry. Good drinking, but not better than that.
