2007 Niepoort Pisca

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Niepoort bought 7½ hectares of land adjoining Quinta Nova in 2003, producing 7,000 litres of must or 10,000 litres of port. The port is made from stemmed grapes with the stems crushed with the grapes. Wines are aged in pipas in the new winery in the Douro valley and bottled after 3 years with the first (and subsequent) bottling in the Douro undertaken in 2008. Fruit is picked in three passes and vinified seperately. The 2012 Bioma has been bottled and approved as a Crusted port and will be released in 2018.

Deep red with an opque centre. Lively on the nose with fruit and flowers. Balanced entry with restrained fruit on the palate. Fierce acidity and tannins which grip firmly combining to give a lovely mouthfeel. A great balanced aftertaste and finish with blackcurrants and black chocolate tannins. Interesting port. 89/100. 22-Apr-16.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
